Office365 Course

Hello all

 

I have been asked to sign up for a course on 0365 and its apps so I can help the school move forward in the use of O365 in the classroom. I am not a teacher or classroom based, I am a Network administrator. Most courses seem really basic, has anybody done/been on any genuinely useful O365 course(s). Any advise will be gratefully received.

In what way does the school want to move forward? Using Office 365 does not necessarily achieve anything in it self. You need to a clear answer about this - otherwise you are skilling users - possibly- to achieve nothing, Its not some panacea for all ills and once you use it all problems will disappear. Not sure from your post whether you already have a tenancy or and whether you have already set up DirSync (or whatever Microsoft now call it to provision users in the cloud and synchronise passwords. So I'm not sure if you are asking for training to set it up - or to support users using it. I've always thought its not much difference to using desktop versions...apart from there being no "save".

There are so many "bits" to O365, that you really need a plan on what you want to utilise within it, followed by how you envisage encouraging your users to start using different elements of it. I know a lot of organisations that we work with have started slowly with the core office products and slowly introduced (through training etc.) newer elements of the product. This would include focussing on the educational use of the apps in a classroom environment. As for your training, you have a couple of options really:

I'm assuming you already manage O365 so are happy with the techy parts. Although if you can sore a tech course on the back of it....Bonus!

1) Sit the courses you think your users will need training on (this may mean enduring a course or two of those lower level courses)

2) Develop something yourself

3) Get someone In to help you improve your understanding of what the solution offers educationally, and also help train you to manage and help disseminate the info/training required for your users in a structured way.

 

As you aren't a teacher, would it be worth suggesting you may need one of your more forward thinking teachers to work with you on this? It may help you firstly with the applications and the "educational/classroom context part, and secondly in the delivery of any training to staff - having a teacher on side shows an existing level of buy in.

ComputerWorld provides training including on O365 - having attended a couple of their hosted events at @Bristol I imagine it is excellent.
