Hi,

We are looking at getting Papercut and syncing it with AD. Instead of the users logging on the photocopiers with their usernames and password can you link it with a code instead? I.e 287055 if we enter this into say the Telephone field in AD?

Thanks

You can also configure Papercut to randomly generate a number when it synchronises users with AD, if you have not set the code in a field in AD

I would suggest you look at RFID if you can. The problem with codes is people will just share them, guess them etc. They just all become common knowledge and thus useless for authenticating.

Yes. We have the "pager" field in AD set as our ID for Papercut. We're introducing RFID in the next week or so though, so people will just scan their ID cards instead.

You can set PaperCut to read a field in AD i.e. pager or you can set it to auto generate an ID number at what ever length either in the primary or secondary field in the user in PaperCut. I normally go to the secondary field and if cards are used they can be registered in the primary field.

I also enable the section in the PaperCut user interface where users can view their code (once logged in with AD details) and or change it/auto generate a new one.

If I remember correctly, the problem with using the pager field in AD is that it is visible to everyone when looking at the contact card in Outlook.

I have previously used a CSV/text file with the correct fields in including the pin number to update Papercut, this worked well for bulk updates.

That is true it is visible.

You could do a bulk update but PaperCut can take care of this automatically when you import users and set it to auto generate, you can still view them in the admin page as can users in their page if you enable that section.
