Surface Pro, hide onboard keyboard strokes on projector

We use Surface Pro's here, and it's been pointed out that when someone types in a password the key strokes are highlighted on the projector, so if you are quick you can work out someone's password.

 

Is there a setting which would prevent the keyboard from being projected?

A projector has no idea what it's projecting, it's simply replicating exactly what you have on screen. Unless there is a way of turning off the animation of the key presses then the only way to stop it being projected, is to not project it when you're entering a password either via unplugging the cable or pressing Windows-Key + P to temporarily stop the screen from being duplicated.

 

I think the best bet is to see if the animation can be turned off on the keyboard or if it's possible to use an alternative on-screen keyboard that doesnt animate the keys when you touch them.

We use extended desktop on them for this very reason, teacher need to learn that extended desktop is by far the best way to achieve what they want, you get a better resolution on the device, and you get all the privacy you need. Edited June 16, 2017 by Achandler

We use Surface Pro's here in school - and came across this problem with Password on Projectors, I even put the question forward to Microsoft who were stumped! - but after a little while, I worked out that when you are clicked into a password box - there's an icon that appears on the floating keyboard to the left of the spacebar that looks like a little flashing block - when you click on this icon (it remembers the setting) when you enter a password, it doesn't highlight the icons being pressed - I'll try and get a screenshot if your struggling to find it!

It's certainly true that you learn something new every day! Never noticed that button before!

It took us a while to know it was there... and what's more I even contacted Microsoft support about the "security issue" of people being able to view the keystrokes entered for a password and even they didn't (or couldn't) tell me about this feature!!
