We had out broadband install done in April 2016. As far as I am aware nothing was left behind at the School but now 14 months later we have had a request for the return of a Router which was left with us as a contingency. We are definitely sure nothing was left with us but can they start chasing after 14 months? They have said a charge for the Router will appear on our next bill!!!

All depends on your contract I think!

The issue is if it was missing surely it should have been flagged up straight away as soon as the installers returned to their office. The Router was supposedly just in case our main broadband link didn't go in on time but it did so the Router was never needed. As far as I remember the installers took everything back with them.

Presumably someone signed for receipt of it or it was present in a bill of materials which someone signed for? What evidence do they offer of the supply of the item? Does it appear on any signed orders etc? Just in case, have you looked down the back of the sofa?

Was this an upgrade of an existing service? i.e did the isp have hardware onsite that was theirs already, and that was the kit they left behind "as a contingency"?

Hopefully your school has access to legal advice who can review the contract and the situation, I would be tempted to try the line that they upgraded the service, they replaced the old kit. Replaced. Not left on site. IANAL You should talk to the school's legal team first.

Well we finally got to the bottom of it all. The ISP engineers put the router in to run our backup line. They should have supplied a separate router for this. They have now realised the mistake and have promised to rectify it and there is no charge to us.
