Haven't tested this year's version yet, but certainly last year it was HTTPS inspection that broke the e-Marker2 software here, even though we had e-marker.co.uk allowlisted. You may need have no HTTPS inspection going on in order for the software to call home successfully.

Makes sense. This inspection does tend to mess with things though logically it shouldn't but re-transmitting the data stream from another connection to the receiving host can cause failures. If you can explicitly allow traffic from e-marker.co.uk to be able to bypass inspection then that would resolve it.

I'm guessing that the inner workings of the e-Marker2 software don't recognise the inspection certificate (i.e. aren't going by Windows's root CA certificate store).

Did anyone ever manage to get this working in school? 
I've got exactly the same issue, try to log in and get "Login: Unable to connect to server". The user can get on at home so I think it's something to do with filtering (we've got Smoothwall) but no amount of exceptions seem to get it going.

I reached out to E Marker about four years ago for support setting up their software and they told me that it was a breach of the users contract to run the software on a school PC.
