Gongalong Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 Hi folks, I thought this was going to be possible, but now I'm beginning to wonder... For a Reception TV setup we want to display two different PowerPoint presentations on two different screens. This is from one PC which is connected to both the screens. The screens are in extend mode as far as Windows is concerned. I have opened the two presentations in PowerPoint, but when you go to to Slide Show > Monitor, and change the monitor, the second instance of PowerPoint immediately changes as well. So it's not possible to select a different monitor for each presentation. Tried this in PowerPoint 2010, and 2016, same problem. It is possible to run the presentations in windows, and presumably arrange them to fit, but I'd rather run these without the toolbars that appear in the windowed view. Am I missing something? Thanks
6Foot2 Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 Have you disabled 'Use Presenter View' in both PowerPoint presentations? 1
jdoyle Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 (edited) In the Slide Show menu option, do you have a Show On option? Allows you to choose which monitor to display each slideshow on Edited May 30, 2017 by jdoyle 1
Gongalong Posted May 30, 2017 Author Posted May 30, 2017 Have you disabled 'Use Presenter View' in both PowerPoint presentations? Yep. In the Slide Show menu option, do you have a Show On option? Yep, but it has the same effect as changing "Monitor" in the Slide Show ribbon, so when I change it on presentation the other one changes as well.
hardtailstar Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 (edited) In Office 2016 untick Presenter view. Then in each powerpoint click on 'set up slide show' and select the middle option in 'show type' Then press view show on each it should come up with two PowerPoints in boxes which you can move to what ever screen. you can also change each Powerpoints slides individually. Hope that helps Edited May 30, 2017 by hardtailstar 1
Gongalong Posted May 30, 2017 Author Posted May 30, 2017 Thanks. I mentioned that in the first post, but it's not ideal because it adds bars to the top and bottom of the screen e.g. slide number. A potential Plan B though.

jdoyle Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 Yep. Yep, but it has the same effect as changing "Monitor" in the Slide Show ribbon, so when I change it on presentation the other one changes as well. Works for me. Open both presentations and place one on each monitor. On the secondary monitor, choose the monitor and start the slide show. On the primary monitor, choose the monitor and start the slide show. 2

jdoyle Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 minimize extra Powerpoint etc controls by setting the slideshow on the main monitor as Presented by a Speaker and the slideshow on the secondary monitor with Browsed by Individual. 1
Gongalong Posted May 30, 2017 Author Posted May 30, 2017 @DaveP and @jdoyle: Thanks, a couple more good Plan B's, C's etc.
nwkeene Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 you can use powershow... (OfficeOne: PowerShow) that lets you customise which PPT runs on which Monitor. Downside is it costs $120... I came accross it when i was doing a theatre show that needed to show different images on different screens. Luckily the Director changed their mind to be one image accross all screens. Might just be easier to use a second hand PC... we have more of them here than cash available... 1
Gongalong Posted June 5, 2017 Author Posted June 5, 2017 Problem solved. What you have to do is startup the PowerPoint as a slideshow *then* you can change the monitor for the second screen.

Gongalong Posted June 16, 2017 Author Posted June 16, 2017 Finally got to try it, and... still doesn't work if you use PowerPoints with timed slides. When the second PowerPoint starts up the first PowerPoint pauses. Aaaaagh! Why Microsoft, WHY?! It does work if you set the second slideshow to be in a window, which we'll use for now. Same approach echoed here Simultaneous Powerpoint Slide Shows on Multiple Screens - Katie Allred
jdoyle Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 yes, it does seem daft that you have to mix the two types of display. Not sure fixing this will be top of the pile for Microsoft.
Gongalong Posted June 16, 2017 Author Posted June 16, 2017 Indeed, esoteric usage. Still, annoying that it doesn't work properly. 1
