Security Camera Systems - What do you use?

I've got a Merit-Lilin setup, 22 cameras the ones in corridors record audio (which has been really useful catching students winding each other up before one swings a punch!), 16TB storage is currently providing us with 3.5 weeks worth of footage. Been looking at the plans for my new build circa 70+ cameras and going to be getting another 64tb of storage space.

Hikvision cameras with Xprotect free version (I think it allows up to 8 cameras). Android/IOS apps are awsome

Isn't audio recording extremely frowned upon? ICO says nooooooo.... (unless you have a DAMN good reason)

i didnt know the cameras came with it. It wasnt until i exported footage for the first time that i found out. When doing playback on the server it doesnt play the sound so you have to make a proper concerted effort to hear the audio. Im the only one with access to this as well.

I would double check where you stand as you are still collecting those audio recordings, it's a definite no no if the students/staff are unaware about the data collection.

Absolutely. All signage MUST state audio is being recorded "over and above the message that CCTV is present" - so it must be very clear. Otherwise your school is in more than dodgy legal grounds. If I was you, I'd be disabling audio with immediate effect and only turning it back on once you have clarification from the ICO in writing and all the relevant signage in place at the very least. Who does or doesn't have access to it is absolutely irrelevant.

Holy hard drives, Batman! 96TB!!!

That sounds utterly, utterly insane. Thinking about it it's hardly unrealistic any more, but I had to read that post 3 or 4 times to let it sink in.

Yup, it's pretty chunky ain't it. Try speccing up 64CH, DS-9664NI-I16, 64x12MP, Max 96TB, Hikvision NVR, 4K with the max allocation. Thing is, with 64 1080p video streams coming in I suspect retention still won't be that amazing!

Still it's not a ridiculous price compared to many off the shelf systems, it's actually rather affordable!

We've been trialling Ubiquiti CCTV stuff here - saw it at another school and was very impressed with the new G3 range of cameras. Currently have just 3 cameras running with an old Core2 PC with a WD Purple drive. Very impressed with what the system can do. It caught three incidents this week in the canteen so SMT are very impressed with being able to pick out the kids easily with the quality of the cameras. Looking to expand it with a few more cameras next week, and I've also got hold of a couple of their 8 port PoE switches to power them - the idea being to keep the CCTV traffic off the edge switches. Their 16 port fibre aggregator switch is keenly priced as well so I'm looking to the future to include one of those as well at our core so the CCTV is on its own separate network.

We use an analogue system from adata and last 4 years been using qvis IP cameras. Recently moved to dahua as they are compatible with our qvis cameras but the dahua cameras are slightly cheaper. Ended up going for a 64 channel 32tb unit.

Dahua here. Very pleased with the price vs performance. Our local security company will fit them for about 175 notes per cam if cabling a poe is in place.
