[ipad] Ipads and setup

Hi,

 

this has probably been asked before but we have a few Ipads, been looking at Meraki as a means to keep some order but this doesn't offer any controls such as Netnanny or the ability to make sure they switched off at night (unless I logon and do it manually) they are ipad2's and with IOS8, they also seem to be missing the app store (I'm assuming that the previous Tech removed it) so my thoughts are;

 

to use Itunes on my PC to upload some monitoring software - any suggestions? (Needs to be able to lock students outside of 'school' hours)

use Meraki to install the MDM - so that I can remotely update and possibly geo-fence in the 'school area'

 

any ideas, advice gladly received many thanks

I am just using Mosyle, and one of it's features is that you can have different permissions set for different times of the day. We don't use it as our iPads stay at school but it appears to be an option in the paid MDM, the free one doesn't include the time restrictions.

I've not used that option, but I can vouch for a free MDM solution as a whole. It's always being updated and works well. 100 devices free, or that was the case when I signed up to it about 18 months ago.

You can only use Meraki for free if you already have an account.

Hi, i've had some experience over this, now running around 30 ipads here.

To start with i used meraki but found it terribly limited but ok for free. I eventually got funds to go go a paid solution and moved everything to Lightspeed.

cant really fault it, more in depth options and far easier to deploy apps (although my meraki setup was before DEP so thinks may have changed).

Meraki's MDM solution is good, but it is only a free addon, so does lack the "premium" features. We have it installed on a fair few devices (large college / university with outcentres) and it does the job for us. DEP is good, but means you will have to buy direct from Apple or an approved reseller. If you want things like time control, i would advise against. But if you already have access to Meraki for wireless etc, i would give it a go for sure.
