Papercut - Do you buy independent from MFD supplier

Looking into Papercut for a couple of schools I look after. As they are moving to a single domain I think it will be worth it.

 

Contacted MFD supplier who can supply but want to start new contracts which is not possible as schools are creating new Academy Trust with with another MAT at the moment so all contract renewals on hold. MFD supplier won't listen though!

 

So can we buy Papercut by ourselves and put on the MFDs?

 

Anyone know roughly how much it costs and it is easy enough to installed for basic follow me printing across 5 different sites

We actually got ours through our copier company but I did get a quote from ITS last year when I was looking at doing it myself.

 

£280 per MFD

£532 for 500 user license for MF

£670 for maintenance

 

There was a discount as we already had NG but for 10 copiers we were looking at £5k

 

I sat with the engineer and did the upgrade on the copiers to run MF and its just weird, had to put the serial number of the copier in a weird website with the MF activation code.

 

I haven't don't follow me yet but he's left the documentation and its seems pretty straightforward but we only have 8 devices now.

Lots of companies will want you to buy it all from them as it gets messy in terms of support.

 

If it was me as a company I would quite happily sell you it with a view to helping get business later on down the lines but its a sale from my point of view.

 

Selectec are the UK PaperCut re sellers so maybe worth getting in touch with them if another company doesn't want to play ball and they can help?

We looked at this a couple of years ago. firstly it is difficult to find a reseller who will sell to you direct but it is possible. I can't remember the name of the company that would. Secondly, if you are leasing the MFDs you would need to get permission from the owner of the machines to put the software on there. It is not difficult to install as you would get all the instructions sent to you when you purchase the licenses. When we changed our leasing company we repurchased licenses for the new MFDs as we had changed brand and the licenses are brand-specific. you do get a discount on the license if you change brand though!

Yup, we buy ours independent of the MFD provider. We bought through Greymatter this time round, as ITS don't do direct sales any more for it.

 

We are paying for a MFD company engineer to come and install it on all the machines this time round though. Although with the last 2 leases we did it ourselves.

Most MFD Will take Papercut but the companies ie Canon, HP Must have Papercut Firmware for the copier, After your First Contract, ie 3 years/ 5 Years papercut is yours you own it.

Most of the companies that support Papercut will just offer support or for a fee!

One I can't Praise enough is Arena Group. Might be worth a chat with them?

Yes, we have done this, as has already been mentioned selectec and ITS are the official distributors although they don't sell direct, we also bought it from Greymatter

What I will say is that Sharp devices it's a web link used on the copier, nothing is stored on them and its the easiest to setup of all the machines on PaperCut. Lexmark now have integration on smaller desktop devices too, yes its Lexmark but the kit has improved and running PaperCut on smaller devices could be of use to some.
