Andrew_C Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 Don't be like the kn*bs I see on the way home every evening in shorts, A-shirts and trainers There's a word for them. SQUID:-Stupid Quick Under-dressed Imminently Dead. Buying second hand boots / leathers / jackets / trousers on e-blag or one of the many f@cebook groups can save you oodles of cash. Not gloves, your fit is too variable, and obviously (I hope) not helmets. You don't know the history.

And if you are unfortunate enough to come off your bike at speed, apparently Japan has a roaring trade in ruined leathers, so you might be able to earn a few quid back too

And you can get mega bargains at the end of the big bike shows when the vendors are trying to offload their stock. And start reading MCN. Its mandatory !!

I was fussy about my cycle helmet as a teen - if it got dropped over about 4ft, it went in the bin.
localzuk Posted July 1, 2017 Author Posted July 1, 2017 Well, did first half of my CBT today. Could've did the other half but was given the option of doing it another day once I had my own bike. That way is get trainer time on my actual bike. So, I'm buying a bike. Sat on/tried out a bunch of different bikes. Only one I felt really comfortable on was a Hyosung GT125R. So am buying that. I fit on it very nicely. 1

APMerry Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 Anyone seen their insurance rise this year? Cheapest price I can find is £200 more than I payed last year!!
localzuk Posted December 8, 2017 Author Posted December 8, 2017 Realised I didn't post here last week. So, after being on the road for a couple of months, I had my first "unscheduled dismount" as my colleague calls it. Turning off at a junction, slipped on wet leaves and ended up with the bike on my leg. Broke a wing mirror, indicator and the gear lever off. Leg is nearly back to normal now, has been a fun week hobbling.

localzuk Posted December 8, 2017 Author Posted December 8, 2017 Oh dude, hope it hasnt put you off? Wet leaves are like ice. Nah. Its annoyed me not having my bike for the last week! I had to get back on it, and limp it back to my house in first (couldn't change gear), so was straight back on it anyway. I'm hoping, once I get my invoice for the repairs, to put a claim in to the council for it - the leaves I slipped on have been there weeks, and are still there now, festering. This road is obviously never kept clean by the council at all.

Live and learn, now you know to avoid leaves whenever possible and I'm sure you won't forget that in a hurry. Re the council, I seriously doubt you will get anywhere with that one, to my knowledge they only need to clear them if they are dangerous (big check) and they have been notified that they are causing a danger in that particular area (difficult to find out and prove), even then they will probably have a reasonable response time of 6 months to hide behind. 1
woodham Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 good luck with that claim (seriously dont waste your time it wont happen) glad your ok. now the big question when you dropped it was your first thought am i ok or was it the true biker thought "bugger thats going to be expensive!" ? I last had that thought whilst watching my cbr slide down the road ahead of me in a shower of sparkes (wiped out on some wet cobble stones as they crossed a corner)

Wasn't until later someone pointed out there was traffic behind me

It was so shiny!!" 1
