LukeC Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Says it in teh name really. Im consdering buying a 360 or a ps3 but i dunno which one to go for what would people recomend
ninjabeaver Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 The 360 at the moment has far more support and followers IMHO. The PS3 has the BlueRay Drive and a big price tag. Personally, I love the X-Box 360, and the Wii and PS2 I have at home already. Some great games on the 360, Gears of War for one and Mass Effect if you like RPG's like KOTOR etc. I'd get the 360 at the mo, and after Christmas next year the PS3 should be alot more affordable as the BlueRay production ramps up more and have them both.
Quackers Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Xbox 360, i bought my second one on sunday (Eliite), so i can have 1 in front room and 1 in my bedroom. Plus my house mate has one too, loads of fun on xbox live. The controllers are the xbox360 i find better for long time playing.
Guest Guest Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 xbox 360 - better controller, more games, better online ps3 - buggy games, no games, delayed releases on games, free online
jcollings Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 PS3 - you get Bluray and they are learning how to get the best from it now.

Thats why I say to go 360 at the mo and change in a years time when the PS3 will be holding its head high. On a side note, if you phone is now due an upgrade, try and get a deal for a 360 or PS3 with it. Thats how I got my 360 Arcade, a new phone and a cheaper contract through Dial-A-Phone. Just an idea.

Depends on what you like. I'd go into Game or somewhere and take a look at the games & see what catches your eye. Then maybe have a look at a magazine or review site and see what is thought of those games. Then choose which one has games you like that seem to be good. Xbox is mainly western style gaming (but JRPGs are starting to come out) where as PS3 gets more Japanese style gaming. Someone with a PS3 will have to tell you how Home and multiplayer is coming along but Xbox Live is pretty damned fantastic, keeping friends across all games, downloading demos and previews. so if online play is important to you that could be a factor It's one of those horrible decisions, you make your choice and have to live with it. Well until you trade it in or flog it
mattx Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Pah - Xbox 360 and PS3 have crap graphics compared to my Binatone TV Master: http://images.google.co.uk/url?q=http://www.old-computers.com/museum/photos/binatone_TV-master-mk-4_2s.jpg&usg=AFQjCNFfb3u_EpO5GL2pf9u5j84HwvOfTw Much better and the game play is incredible.
StewartKnight Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 If you get an X-Box, go for the premium, as you can't do Online Gaming without the hard drive. BTW, word on the street is that the xb0x is about to drop by £50

I had one of those back in the 70's. I have a 360, its great, the games are cheap and it works. Locally you can buy pre owned games for it from £5 upwards. FTW!
clarky2k3 Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Get the xbox 360 far superior games plus M$ has just confirmed they will drop the price from 14th March. Pro console now £199.99
ZeroHour Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Xbox 360, huge amount of games and a lot of edugeekers on it now (check out the social group: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/group.php?groupid=20) Also in < 6 months the ps3 should drop in price again they say so I would wait. There are no "killer" games on the ps3 and the new GTA has lots of xbox exclusive content if you like that series.
TechMonkey Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Ok, I'll stop playing devils advocate. Get a 360
gwendes Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 360 - but get the Elite -cooler, less power hungry and prettier
HodgeHi Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Word on the street (or afterdawn really) is that the bluray production cost are now cheaper so we should see a price reduction in the PS3 sometime soon. But then again it is Sony so who thinks it will come to the UK? After all they screw us with every other over-priced item to come from anywhere else in the world.
DarkLight Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Personally I like the Xbox 360, but that's mainly because I have one and I love Xbox Live - the alternative PS3 online play doesn't compare for me and those who have both consoles say the 360 is better in that regard. That said, the PS3 does have some good selling points such as exclusive console games (Kill Zone etc (unless I'm mistaken)) but so does the 360. You have to see which games you want to play, and if you are a fan of "playing together" online. Microsoft dropped their prices for the 360 series of consoles, Sony will probably do so in the next couple of months. If you want a 360, get one with a harddrive (120gb preferable) as the 20gb isn't that big (I have one) and a memory card doesn't cut it.
jcollings Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Don't you have to go for the Elite pack 360 to get HDMI output? If truth be told (despite having had a 360 and now a PS3) I'd buy a Wii for sheer entertainment and Mario Kart is out soon!!!
ICT_GUY Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 I have mine running through a VGA cable, amazing quality.

If truth be told (despite having had a 360 and now a PS3) I'd buy a Wii for sheer entertainment and Mario Kart is out soon!!! I think the new normal consoles have a hdmi port on the back as well.
StewartKnight Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 My lad has a premium and it has an hdmi built in, and it came with a component lead for a LCD telly anyway!
Joanne Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 my xbox has died TWICE now... so they can get bent! Bought a ps3 and the fact it is free online instead of £30something a year is much better. I like the controller... the controllers charge off the console (no millions of recharable batteries hanging around) Graphics are about the same. Personally, you should look at the games which are just xbox 360 and just ps3 and see which ones you would like the most. If you are like me though... you would want every console going so you don't miss out on everything. To conclude.... BUY BOTH!!
Joanne Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 game or gamestation are my bags... you get bundle deals.
Michael Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 (edited) I'm a PS3 owner, although I like both 360 and PS3, the PS3 is the better console in my opinion. PS3 without a doubt is manufactured to a much higher quality than the 360. I don't recall coming across a single article of a failed PS3. That's not to say they don't exist, but they're very far and few. The PS3 is definitely a multimedia console, whereas I find the 360 isn't as much. Although I am a PC user as well, I can imagine it would appeal to lots of gamers to save their pictures, music and video all in one area. The PS3 also allows you to install any notebook hard drive to expand its capacity, but unfortunately you cannot do this on the 360. The PS3 is also free to play online (which is what it should be). Both Microsoft and recently Nintendo charge for online gaming, which when you think about it soon mounts up! All PS3 consoles also have integrated HDMI, Blu-ray and Wireless Networking. Microsoft clearly are playing catch up as they continually keep revising their console. Personally (as a customer) this would greatly frustrate me, especially with the probability MS will integrate a Blu-ray drive in another console revision. Of course this would mean playable HD movies and larger, more detailed graphics due to Blu-ray's huge disc capacity. It makes a lot of sense, but at the same time, if you do some quick maths the reason PS3 is more expensive is because it has more features/technologies as standard. If you wish to use Wireless Networking on the 360 (for example), this costs around £60.00. The 360 overall probably would work out more expensive. Edited March 11, 2008 by Michael
