UEFI bios

Hey guys,

 

RM CC4 network and I'm trying to build a computer with a Jupiter/H110 board. Unfortunately its a UEFI bios and I can't for the life of me get it to recognise any form of USB build/CD ROM. It won't even network boot, even though that works fine on other PCs which are new but support UEFI and Standard Bio's. Any ideas? There has to be a way. It has Windows 10 pre-installed and I'm trying to install Windows 10 1607 build for CC4.

What are you using to make the usb media? I had some trouble with some new hp laptops recently, i used the latest version of rufus, gpt partition scheme for UEFI and fat32 file system and then they recognised them and booted OK. (this was for a pe boot stick, but should be the same)

I use the RM tool called PrepUSB. I'm guessing it's pretty dated now as it only seems to support FAT 16/32 and NTFS. It worked fine on Windows 7 but I've been using the network boot recently as it's more straight forward with the Bio's getting more complicated. What do i need then? Rufus?

Have you enabled the network stack in the UEFI BIOS?

Depending on your setup, try enabling only the IPv4 stack.

Haven't put it to the test yet but I think RM's latest windows 10 image support UEFI boot (although upgrading might be a bit of a headache for this time on a Friday afternoon)

 

Is there an option in the bios to turn off UEFI boot? If so do that. Turn it back on once the computer has built (if you want to)

Yeah I have, the only option is Network Stack enable or disable and it's enabled by default. The network boot initially works then throws up a really fast error and continues with a normal boot from the hard drive.

what server version is your wds server on as iirc you neeed 2012 (possibly r2) for uefi boot to work and a uefi compatible boot image (so easiest is win10 boot image)

Pretty sure it is Sever 2012 R2. Using Rufus I've got it to boot from a USB (Thanks Steve) but now I'm getting an image error. I'm guessing what you've pointed out Sted. It's PE10 I think, which I'm guessing isn't compatible with UEFI?

Sorry not sure if you saw my suggestion, about turning it off/enabling legacy

 

On my bios there is an option in secure boot changed to other OS from Windows UEFI

 

Is there also anything called CSM that you can enable?

Ah there is CSM and it's disabled, what does that do? Only other option is Enable/Disable secure boot, but no other OS, which I'm pretty familiar with as I used to boot from USB a lot so am used to configuring the Bios to legacy but this one seems pure UEFI.

I am using the latest win10 image 1607 for CC4 build but it doesn't appear to recognise the image once I enter the admin user and pass to get the build going.

given the option id leave csm off and use uefi but as a backup plan its fine

Yeah I had this problem a few years back.

 

Was staring at 70 laptops to build at the time, with about a week to go before the end of the summer holidays. Held things up by around a day I reckon (I had no broadband at the school at the time so I ended up going home to use the interwebs)

Well UEFI didn't seem to work with the image. It's good to know I can boot using a USB in UEFI though so something good has come from this. Thanks for all your help everyone. CheeseDog, I know how you feel.

For reasons I can't entirely recall, I had to create a new UEFI capture image then recapture my existing image as UEFI. This was with WDS though - not sure if you have to do something similar with CC4.
