Laptop trolley deliveries

Hi all, our SLT/school direction is to have several trolleys of Chromebooks/iPads/laptops which staff can book and then use in lessons.

 

I've been asked to come up with a proper procedure for this and was wondering what you do in your schools, or would recommend?

 

At the moment, we have 9 trolleys in total and the school site is split across four floors and two buildings - so it's not as easy as one trolley per floor unfortunately! They all currently live on the ground floor in a 'resource room' which has higher rated power sockets for charging and one of the admin apprentices goes round the school delivering and picking up trolleys from classrooms - but there's not enough time usually to get them around the school!

 

For those of you who have trolleys, do you tend to have them per department, or per floor etc? Who does the responsibility for delivery and collection reside with?

Currently we have Chromebook carts in our office and students come to collect the Chromebooks. We use LockNCharge Carts which have baskets in them that hold 5 Chromebooks per basket. The students collect and return the baskets to us.

I have generally found that if you assign trollies to specific departments only, they get looked after much better. Particularly if you tell the departments that as it is 'their' trolley, their budget will be billed for any repairs. Edited April 21, 2017 by Jawloms

We do similar do the OP, but the teacher collects and returns the trolley.

We originally had responsibility for them but then you run into problems like them not being put back properly and then not charging and thus you getting blamed next time they are used, damage to them, the trolley moving when it shouldn't etc It's something I think that's best to pass off especially if you've got like Science laptops then Science Technicians etc someone near them and reasonable responsible or if you at a good school maybe some prefects/captains/monitors

Trolleys are per-faculty/dept for the aforementioned "taking better care of them" reasons.

 

Teachers are responsible for getting/returning the trolleys or asking site staff to deliver them with sufficient prior warning.

Ah yes, the trolleys every where. We used to but got rid of them in favour of a few more IT suites. Used to be one per area and most of them didn't move. We strongly advised (shouted at times) that they were to be looked after and staff check them before and after assigning them.

 

The majority of them were wrecked, cheap as chips or didn't do what the staff wanted. The ones that got looked after were those trolleys that didn't move because it was very easy to point fingers. Although there was one particular department that went through £40,000 worth of laptops in 4 years even though we could point fingers.....

We have Lock-N-Charge cabinets with baskets in individual classrooms, it's the teacher's / teaching assistant's / classroom laptop monitor's responsibility to take care of them. We have a 1:1 device:pupil ratio for years 6,7 and 8 and a 1:2 or 1:3 ratio for lower years, so pupils in the junior school share 1 between 2 or 3. We're using Chromebooks, and I've written a script to extract name, location and asset ID from Google's management console and generate a printable A4-size sticker to go on the front of the laptops, so each laptop is easily identifiable. We're currently using laser-printable sticky labels for that but, speaking to VeryPC, they can do you laminated vinyl stickers for your laptops at a good price.
