Issues with Show My Homework

Wonder if anyone else is experiencing the same issues as we are currently with Show My Homework?

 

Over the past couple of days students and teachers have not been able to log onto the Show My Homework site (both at home and on the school site) and are either presented with just a blank page or a Show My Homework error page (Something has gone wrong...(5XX)). If we constantly refresh the page, we might eventually be able to log on. The main fix that has been given to us so far is to clear our temporary internet files, which does not solve the issue. Trying different browsers makes no difference and no block notifications are appearing in our firewall logs with regards to accessing the site. All other website are working fine.

 

Is anyone else having this issue or is it just specific to our sub-domain on their site?

Hello,

My name is Deryk and I'm an Application Support Engineer at Show My Homework. The problem causing users to see blank pages when accessing our site has now been resolved.

A bit of a post-mortem if you're interested: Whenever a user signs in to Show My Homework, their browser is assigned a unique session token that is used to identify them. For security reasons, this token expires after a given amount of time. Over the Easter holiday, a change was made to the site with an inadvertent side effect that prevented users with an expired session token from accessing Show My Homework as the token was not renewed correctly.

 

The goal in asking affected users to clear their browser's local storage was to remove the expired token and effectively reset the authentication process. Coupled with the fact that the issue was intermittent and difficult to replicate locally as it requires the presence of an expired session token, it did unfortunately take us a while to identify the core problem.

 

We offer our sincere apologies for the trouble caused. We're always working to improve our quality assurance processes and the pace at which we're able to identify and resolve issues like these when they do occur. This is still an issue for me. I can access show my homework on my school computers using google chrome but I cannot access the pages on my home laptop using Microsoft edge. I cannot go into school and print off the pages because it is the summer holidays and I have also had this problem previously and someone helped me to reset this and the website worked for a week or so and the problem started again so I was wondering if there was anything I could try now?

@harnzfrazer, the helper probably got you to reset your cache. Could you do so again? it may help. If not maybe install a new browser until school opens up again. You may get some joy if you email either your teacher or support staff in school.
