Same with the logon screen background. Now tried it locally - the preview shows what it should look like, but the cave appears instead. I think it's mocking me for being stuck in work by showing an exotic locale

It's frustrating, as now I've used 1703 I don't want to deploy 1607 because it's missing lots of useful GP controls. I can wait a couple of months yet at least, to see if they fix it.

It would be nice if MS fixed it in next months cumulative update, but at least it's not a major bug that would completely prevent deployment.

Got an odd one with CS6 not installing via a UNC path which seems to be a permissions/UAC issue, but that was present on 1607 too.

I've always had to copy CS6 locally and install it from their when creating my image with W10.

 

With the new GPOs could I stop applocker blocking the Settings app and then just choose to allow the About page for example for kids?

Interesting. I have managed to install it across the network once on W10, now not. Could be due to updates/versions. No harm as I can put it in the images.

 

I've still got Settings blocked - I don't think it gives enough granular control yet (unlike the Control Panel) but I haven't looked extensively. There are plenty of new policies though.

Possibly yeah, am going to create a new 1703 image when the ISO's appear on VLSC for EES users (1st May I heard) so might update my install with all the latest updates.

I've had the same issue with text displaying after upgrading to 1703 from 1607. You are right that logging off fixes it but after a while it keeps coming back and then seems to mess everything up. Have tried multiple options of 1607 but the same on all of them.

Only does it in a domain, on my computers at home it is fine. Using local profiles. Keeping away from it for now until the ISO's are out on VLSC so can do a fresh build.

I havent had the problem with my machine... (although i cant get the volume meter open....) but its just seems to be the fresh built (V1607 then upgraded to V1703) machines... A restart tends to fix this but dont want to tell staff the computer needs restarting when this happens..

Seems like one cause of it is older computers, mine are core i5-2400 with integrated graphics.

 

Since installing KB4015583 yesterday I've not had the issue, but not many people have tested it

 

If you have the issue, can you tell us what hardware you're using?

Funny enough. It seems its 2nd gen i3 with intergrated graphics.

 

But also had it on a 4th gen i3 as well.

 

I will keep an eye. May need a graphics drivers update.

I've not had any issues with the background not displaying. Just the odd machine that is on V1703 with text problems. Ive installed lastest graphics drivers and still the same problem...

Oooh I used the upgrade assistant to update my 10 Edu VM, now copied the policy definitions across. No Control Panel is freaky. Half of the disk space now taken up by Windows.old again. Time to play with the GPs.

 

Arggghh. Stopping the Microsoft Edge Tips tab from loading will become a personal mission it seems.

 

If you run a disk cleanup, you can remove the old windows installation. If you don't want to revert back then safe to delete it.

Hey @Arthur, are you finding that the lock screen image has reverted back to the cave? The same GP that changed it on earlier versions now doesn't work - have checked my WMI filters and it's applying. This is from a UNC path - it may work locally.

 

I have a custom logon wallpaper set. All PCs were imaged from the same image. However, after the update, some default to the windows default, some have kept the custom wallpaper. No fix as yet, but plan to re-image from the start again and then try the update.

Easy way? Remove the GP settings that point to the custom one I guess, but considering this control is pretty broken I'd be skeptical that even that will work.

I'm not sure what even on a working system i.e our Windows 7 PCs, that just removing the policy will revert it, as would need to point to the original bmp, jpg etc?
