flyinghaggis Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 (edited) Just tried out one in the phone store today and it's pretty impressive to look at given there's virtually no bezel on the front. Even the 6.2" S8+ isn't actually much larger in form factor than my current Nexus 5X. I also like that they've done away with the physical home button so it looks more like stock Android rather than the usual TouchWiz interface. I'm not sure if I'd buy a Galaxy as I generally prefer stock Android and Samsung are usually pretty slow when it comes to bringing out OS updates. The hardware design itself is stunning though! DalekSec Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 First smartphone was the s4, currently on the S6 Edge and next one looks like the S8+ My contract is up next month so great timing
L3OUGH Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 I'm also on an S6 Edge. The S8 looks awesome, but contract isn't up till December!
abillybob Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 Used to buy a new phone every couple of months. Nowadays I just can't be bothered, same thing different skin. Had my S6 Edge now for almost 3 years and won't replace it until it won't turn on again! I'm not looking back I currently pay £6 a month for 4GB Data with Unlimited Mins and Texts on Three after I bargained with them once my contract had finished!
MatthewL Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 I'm on the S4, due to upgrade in a few months, couldn't have come at a better time, wont be years old when I get one this time!

flyinghaggis Posted April 1, 2017 Author Posted April 1, 2017 (edited) Nowadays I just can't be bothered, same thing different skin. I've been feeling the same way with most phone releases these days. It's all basically moar cores, HDs, RAMs, Gigs, Megapixels, etc . I just thought the Galaxy S8 was worth of discussion because of the screen design. Or more specifically the lack of bezel and how easy it is to pocket and hold frankly ridiculous 5.8" and 6.2" handsets. I suppose they have cheated slightly as the phones are now taller 18.5:9 ratio displays rather than the more usual 16:9. That's probably better actually since it means you can have a very tall/large display whilst still being able to hold it comfortably. I do wonder if it might cause issues with some apps though? I suspect a lot of apps/videos will still default to 16:9 giving you black bars at the sides when using the phone in landscape orientation. Nice to see we're reached the stage of removing the front bezel in phones. Now if someone could just develop a battery that can actually last all day without dying on me. Oh, and if the manufacturers could put this tech into a phone that doesn't cost £700-800 whilst they're at it that would be splendid cause the price tag of the S8 is eye watering .........
