Im feeling rather stupid today, can someone please explain the differences between the different profiles that i have in AAD connect.

If i want to force an update on an edited user in our Local AD to change on O365, what do i run on the Local AD connector and the O365 connector in the AAD connect.

I have the following saved on the Sync server desktop as a PowerShell script:

Import-Module ADSync
Start-ADSyncSyncCycle -PolicyType Delta

You can then right click and run if required. I got the above code from another website online so not sure what the different sync's are but Delta seems to do everything I need.

So what are the differences between Full and delta?

I guess delta import takes over new or deleted users/objects and delta sync syncs any changes?

I guess a full import does what it says, a full import and the full sync does everything too?

My understanding is

Initial - cross references everything in Local AD with Office 365 everytime

Delta - only looks for changes since the last Initial

Interestingly I had an issue a few years back that after I made a local AD change it would not carry it across to O365 until I did an Initial.

I am not sure about the differences between the import and the sync profiles in AD Connect. However, I have never use the GUI to run any kind of import or sync.

If I want to run a sync then I just use PS

To check scheduler

Get-ADSyncScheduler

To run a Delta cycle (just updates from last sync)

Start-ADSyncSyncCycle -PolicyType Delta

To run a full cycle and resync everything

Start-ADSyncSyncCycle -PolicyType Initial
