Problem re importing Assessment templates

Hi

I am employed as a data manager which is in a ‘soft’ federation with a partner school.

I am currently trying to import some SIMS Assessment templates from our partner school’s SIMS database, onto ours. Because the schools do not share the same network, I am having to resort to import the .xml files into Google Drive from the partner school’s SIMS, and then import it into our SIMS from Google Drive.

Upon downloading the file from Google Drive, a message stating that ‘the file contains custom XML elements which are no longer supported by Word…’ appears (as per p1 of the attached screenprint). (we have Word 2010).

Then, upon trying to save the downloaded file onto our network, a message appears stating that ‘the resulting document will not be a well-formed XML file….’. (as per p2 of the attached screenprint). I have to click on OK as there is no other option.

When it comes to saving the downloaded file onto our network, I have clicked on both the ‘Keep Word ML’ & ‘Continue’ options, but then, when I try to import the .xml file into SIMS, a message appears stating that ‘File cannot be imported as import type is invalid’.

Does anyone know of any solution to this issue? Any replies would be gratefully received.

It looks like the issue might be caused by trying to open the file in word, you might have more luck zipping the file before uploading it to google drive.

Definitely caused by word. If you have to open an XML file to do manual edits, use plain old Notepad (or Notepad++). Word tries to do a lot of stuff in the background like formatting and stuff that tends to ruin things like .xml files.

You shouldn't need to open. If Google is being silly it might be worth emailing it or zipping as suggested.

You could even just rename it to .txt for the transfer.
