FN-GM Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 No interaction (apart from entering credentials and agreeing permissions) needed from the user. It simply presents the user's Google Drive as a mapped drive (I: in my case) and allows you to interact as a normal Windows based drive. Seems pretty seamless. Right click on any files/folders to make them available offline exactly as the native Windows offline files works. Hopefully we can find a way to 1. Agree the access for them. 2. Use SAML to remove the need to enter credentials.
tj2419 Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 Not had mine through yet [emoji30] does it enable some more options in the admin console or is it just an installer you download from somewhere? Cheers
FN-GM Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 And an offline installer. I should image that would come in the final release. It will be something in high demand.
FN-GM Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 Does it create a drive letter for each team drive please?
djones Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 No, one drive that then contains 2 top level folders: My Drive and Team Drives
Arthur Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 Does it create a drive letter for each team drive please? There's a screenshot on the first page of this thread showing what @djones describes. www.edugeek.net/forums/cloud-services/181218-google-drive-file-stream.html#post1555099
tj2419 Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 Has anyone else had their email through? Still waiting If people have been able to test it, is it a viable option for installing on domain computers being used by multiple users?
The_IT_Guy Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 have other users been accepted into the EAP? registered a few weeks back but not received my confirmation email yet.
fiza Posted April 3, 2017 Author Posted April 3, 2017 Nope. Same here. For the Team Drives we were accepted quite early on but for this its all gone quiet.
tj2419 Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Me too Really wanted to test it asap to trial it against IAM cloud to see if it is a free option that works. Can't tell if it is designed for single-user comptuers or if it would be used on shared machines.
NotSoFast Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 I've been accepted, but not tried it at work. It's great at home. I was also excited that it would be a neat way to wean users off their Windows My Docs. Sadly, I think its just a neater implementation of Drive sync, so I would imagine the same problems remain on a network. We'll see later this week, but I'm not optimistic.
tj2419 Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 Why not? My tests have been encouraging so far. What have you managed to get working? Still waiting to be approved [emoji30]
djones Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 Each user logs in with their details and has access to their files from within various apps. Admittedly, I haven't yet tried on shared computers only ones assigned to particular staff.
snagrat Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 Will files in Google Drive now be prone to Ransomware attacks?
djones Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 I guess that's possible but wouldn't they have been before anyway?
snagrat Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 Not if access was only through browser. Yes if uses Google Drive Sync.
NotSoFast Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 Well, just at home if i log in with a different account on the same PC the original account's drive is presented to the 2nd user in explorer.
jmak Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 Well, just at home if i log in with a different account on the same PC the original account's drive is presented to the 2nd user in explorer. Surely that must be a bug, not by design? Have you reported it to Google?
NotSoFast Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 No, only just tried it. I assumed it wasn't designed for shared pcs by the way the installer asked me to sign in, but I could be wrong. 😀
fiza Posted April 27, 2017 Author Posted April 27, 2017 Just got the email asking my users to take the survey prior to enabling File Stream. Not sure if i want to take it up now if it's got issues.
