Google Drive File Stream

No interaction (apart from entering credentials and agreeing permissions) needed from the user. It simply presents the user's Google Drive as a mapped drive (I: in my case) and allows you to interact as a normal Windows based drive. Seems pretty seamless. Right click on any files/folders to make them available offline exactly as the native Windows offline files works.

 

Hopefully we can find a way to

 

1. Agree the access for them.

2. Use SAML to remove the need to enter credentials.

No, one drive that then contains 2 top level folders: My Drive and Team Drives

If people have been able to test it, is it a viable option for installing on domain computers being used by multiple users?

Same here. For the Team Drives we were accepted quite early on but for this its all gone quiet.

Me too Really wanted to test it asap to trial it against IAM cloud to see if it is a free option that works.

 

Can't tell if it is designed for single-user comptuers or if it would be used on shared machines.

I've been accepted, but not tried it at work. It's great at home. I was also excited that it would be a neat way to wean users off their Windows My Docs. Sadly, I think its just a neater implementation of Drive sync, so I would imagine the same problems remain on a network. We'll see later this week, but I'm not optimistic.

Each user logs in with their details and has access to their files from within various apps. Admittedly, I haven't yet tried on shared computers only ones assigned to particular staff.

Not if access was only through browser. Yes if uses Google Drive Sync.

Surely that must be a bug, not by design? Have you reported it to Google?

No, only just tried it. I assumed it wasn't designed for shared pcs by the way the installer asked me to sign in, but I could be wrong. 😀

Just got the email asking my users to take the survey prior to enabling File Stream. Not sure if i want to take it up now if it's got issues.
