fiza Posted March 9, 2017 Author Posted March 9, 2017 Only downside of EAP 5. Limitations: - At the moment, there are no OU-level controls for enabling or disabling Drive File Stream. After being accepted to participate in the EAP, the entire domain will have access to Drive File Stream.

File Stream sounds very similar to Callback File System which enables you to modify remote data on-the-fly. It could also be FUSE-based like Windows File System Proxy or Dokan. If I find out any details I'll post them here. Edit. It's also a bit like Dropbox's Smart Sync feature. The new Smart Sync system is specifically for business users, and it's available on Windows and Mac. It allows all users of a business account to have Dropbox files integrated into the file system, but not actually downloaded until they're needed. So, even if you've got far more data in the cloud than local space, you can still see and access the files quickly. Edited March 9, 2017 by Arthur 1

gshaw Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 Very interesting, finally a solution to bridging the desktop and cloud if this works as promised. Microsoft have had long enough to get something similar in place with OneDrive but still no joy, seems Google have stolen a march on them with this. 1

IMO Office 365 has done so well based on the fact many of the users on the platform used Exchange previously. 1

Are they required to interact with it to get it to work? Or can it be seamless like a Windows mapped drive is? Thanks
djones Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 No interaction (apart from entering credentials and agreeing permissions) needed from the user. It simply presents the user's Google Drive as a mapped drive (I: in my case) and allows you to interact as a normal Windows based drive. Seems pretty seamless. Right click on any files/folders to make them available offline exactly as the native Windows offline files works. 2
