Car booster seat law change making it difficult for non drivers

Thanks law makers for making it difficult for non drivers to use other people's cars. My wife's friends are now paranoid about giving lifts to my wife with our son if she provides a non high back booster. She may have travelled there by bus so could not take a high back with her. This is still legal to use but the law has fudged the issue. I all for safety but it had to be practical may be we should all wear crash helmets when driving.

This only impacts the sale of new seats, so existing seats can be used no problem.

 

What I find crazy is you can have children at the sage of 11 having to use booster seats. Can you imagine a year 7 child turning upto school in a booster seat?

It is still height dependent for booster seats I think. My kids both achieved the height for ditching booster seats before they were 7.

How is trying to protect kids wrong? Seriously. I know it maybe looked at a bit dramatic, but it's looking out for the childs safety. We all know driving standards are dropping, so this can only be seen as a good thing.

I don't think anyone would say that trying to protect kids is wrong. The question is how you balance risk management against practicality (and unintended consequences). Logically, the way to 100% protect kids from being a passenger in a car accident would be to ban them from cars. Unfortunately all other schemes are basically a matter of "how many deaths are acceptable" when set against the "benefits" or transportation by cars.

There safety and there meaning my wife has to wait in the cold and wet for the bus that does not turn up. This is as she can't get a lift from anyone as they are worried about car seats/don't know how to turn airbags off. She can't drive due to Eplipsie.
