Hi All,

I have a few computers on Windows 7 that will not install IE11. Although same spec machines will install IE11

The computers are all up to date with Win7 SP1.

I have tried installing hotfixes and uninstalling IE9 as Microsoft suggests.

When I try to install IE11 it either says it didn't finish installing or that it has installed but when open IE up it is just IE10.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance

You could try these steps (from an admin command prompt)...

dism /online /add-package /packagepath:D:\IE11\Windows6.1-KB2670838-x64.cab
dism /online /add-package /packagepath:D:\IE11\IE11-Windows6.1-KB2841134-x64.cab

Check whether KB2670838 is already installed, it is an old one, and used to cause problems on some machines, but IE11 depends on it.

Here are links to the .cab files mentioned (x64)

2670838-x64

2841134-x64

Thanks all. Tried what's been suggested. Any other ideas would be great.

You should run sfc.exe /scannow (from an admin command prompt)

Have you checked the event logs, dism.log...

Also, have you made any customisation to this image before installing it?

Still no luck tried suggestions that have been posted.

Its random on which computers it does not install. Two images exactly the same on the same machines.

it either says it installed and after a restart I check and its still IE10 or it will say its not installed.

I tried it via windows update and manually installing.

Any more suggestions?

I also encountered this sporadic beastie.

I resolved it by downloading the appropriate IE 11 from the Microsoft Site, going into IE Settings / Security Settings / Custom Leve / and allowing most of the default unallowed options in there, Into Advanced and doing the same there. Restarting IE with those newly applied settings then I was able to run IE 11 install okay.
