Hi,

We have a small number of users who are experiencing an issue when connecting to a projector via VGA - the default behaviour we see is that the monitor duplicates; so the same is on the laptop as is on the projector. However, we are seeing that randomly the laptops will select second screen only or pc screen only. Is anyone experiencing this on Windows 10? I understand a user can press win + p and manually select the desired display options or run displayswitch.exe /clone to duplicate the display, but I would rather identify the route cause.

Thanks in advance :)

We see this every so often. We've even added a desktop icon to run displayswitch.exe /clone. We're not sure why it happens but we have have a vga switch box to switch between PC and Ipad. Doesn't happen often but we do see it. Never found an answer for it. This is on windows 7 machines also.

Are the people affected usually based in one room or are they roamers who move classroom nearly every lesson? Or a mix of both?

Have found that Presenter View in PowerPoint was causing some projection issues. So originally a device would be set up as Duplicate to the projector, if they start a PowerPoint presentation in Presenter View it will switch to Extend view, when you finish or close the presentation the device will still be in Extend view meaning the user will have to manually select WIN+P to switch to Duplicate. This may not be your issue, but here we found it was the source of a lot here.

Hi Pete, It's a bit of a mix, one member of staff stays in the same room, but another couple roam around.

thimon - i've read a couple of articles around this, but the curve ball for us is that we are now seeing it randomly switching to 'second screen only'. The plot thickens.....

Thanks for your responses, I really appreciate it!

Have you tried manually updating the Graphics card driver from the manufacture? I never fully trust the drivers that Windows Update finds, we had issues with the LAN cards on some PCs, manually installed the latest Intel driver and no issues since.
