We want a quick and easy digital signage based on a Slideshow of out twitter feed. I have found this free service but it only works with hashtags and will not display just our own tweets.

I'm using a raspberry pi and chromium in full screen to display our twitter feed, I leave the page zoomed in and I use a tab rotate extension to switch between other pages like our solar power etc, seems to work well.

 

Not perfect but was a cheep start!

I have try to do the same. Basically I wanted the school calendar to be displayed on the TV and picture slide show.try to use the raspberry pi it's slow and I can't get Power point to work properly. I can only use the office office and the power point I have created using MS office does not work on open office properly. I wonder how about android box? Have anybody gone on android box route?

We use the LiveWeb plugin for Powerpoint to display live pages on our screens, works really well but doesn't work on every web page out there so your mileage may vary

Great ideas here so far. I need to get a digi signage system up and running this year. The problem is it needs to be free, I can barely afford TVs let alone expensive software. (on that note guys - if you want cheap TVs you can get REALLY cheap ones from ao.com - I just picked up a 65" 1080p including a wall mount for £350.

 

Any more digi signage suggestions would be welcome!!!

We use www.digitalsignage.com which is free. all you need is tv's and then something to run the client from, there are clients for android and windows etc.

I've used https://pisignage.com/lp/ before, not sure exactly what it will do these days as I've moved jobs since. It is free for a few screens, but cheap if you've more, especially if you already have the Rasp Pi

I seem to be a bit of an Xibo rep. at the moment but thats only because it works so well for me and is pretty expandable...and of course free! there is a Twitter module that will do all that you seem to want to do.

+1 for xibo although school proxy & modules dont play great. (read I am not good enough at xibo) open source ftw though

We use some form of Dell Optiplex (they're Atom CPU, upgraded to 4GB RAM and some we put SSDs in) off ebay, cheap and can just about run Win7 if you get the ones with a hard drive. Small enough to leave sitting on a ceiling tile. Can't remember the model but they are about the size of an ipad but 1 inch thick,

 

Also use LG screens as they have one button which can be locked to not do anything besides turn it on (you can prevent the button turning it off and do it via the remote or set a timer). Great for areas where the ceilings are too low to mount the screen out of reach.

For the software we run Xibo.
