CapnPugwash Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 Hi We have the Proplus licence that allows staff/students to download a full version of Office on up to five devices. Seems like something we would struggle to support given that: * The software can be installed on almost any device * Users may already have an older version of Office installed * Users may already have a 'personal' rolling monthly contract Interested to know other people's experiences of rolling this out, did you give them the mysoftware URL and get them to sign something that said we can neither support you nor be held responsible for any problems caused by installing the software ... or??
Boredguy Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 Are you already using Office 365 for e-mail? If so, students/staff who have the proplus licence assigned can just download it from within the same website. When office is installed it will ask for your e-mail address and password. Users just pick that it was a work account and not personal one and it verifies their credentials against the ones held by Office 365 for your site. Once you remove their licence, the office program will stop working after so many days and they will either enter their new school details, or can purchase a licence directly from MS. So far we have around half the students that have taken up our free Office offer since Microsoft brought it out and other than the odd reminder to parents on how they can redownload it we have had no issues.
Katy Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 We have the ProPlus licence and everyone has Office 365, so we just tell them it is there for download but that we don't support home devices. Think we have a help sheet that shows them how to download and install and that's it. With the Office 365 linked version it does the licensing for you and gives them a list of devices it is installed on (with buttons to remove the licence from the specific device) so nothing that we need to worry about.
3s-gtech Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 Seems like something we would struggle to support You shouldn't need to support it. Give them the link to sign in to their Office 365 account and point them towards the button to download the desktop version. After that, it's up to them. As it's a freebie to them, there's little to complain about surely?
CapnPugwash Posted February 13, 2017 Author Posted February 13, 2017 We do use Office 365 for email so rolling it out is easy. We are telling people that (a) we can't support home devices & (b) we can't be held responsible for any 'damage' caused by downloading the software, so I guess we are covered. So far, take-up from staff has been minimal.
Michael Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 If users have an older version, Office 2016 setup will remove it automatically is the default behaviour. If users already have home agreements, the onus is on them to cancel it after it expires. That's not really your issue. As you say, make them aware it's there and it's legal, but you offer no support. It's what I do.
