YouTube videos won't play for the kids??

Hi All

 

So currently we're having a strange issue with YouTube on the kids accounts. It didn't seem to do this before we updated Smoothwall to the latest version. We have two proxy authentication methods, Kerberos which is having authentication issues sometimes and NTLM which seems ok. So we've put all the kids on the Windows machines on the NTLM proxy.

 

It works as you'd expect and we don't have issues until the kids try to access YouTube it does this

 

Upon accessing a video it will show up certificate cannot be verified which states Issued to: googleads.g.doubleclick.net and pubads.g.doubleclick.net the Issued By shows our Smoothwall box.. I'm not sure if this has something to do with it but even when we install the certificated manually the problem doesn't seem to go away.

 

The strange thing is that when logged in as the domains admin account through the exact same proxy it will work with no errors or problems??

 

Any help would be most appreciated we're all really stuck on this one!

 

EDIT: Sorry should also probably mention that Youtube.com takes forever to load just the homepage also where as other websites are fine... Think they could be linked!

kinda looks like it's blocking the ad at the beginning so the video won't play...

 

I block youtube for the pupils.

Do you have Google Suite (aka GAFE)? Our pupils have to be logged into the Google account before they can see YouTube videos.

Do they have headphones or speakers plugged in?

 

This always used to be the case if there was no sound output device plugged in or recognised.

 

Have you tried it with a test student account bypassing the proxy to see if it is the proxy?

I thought this might have something to do with it but even after adding the domains listed above into Smoothwall's allow list it still won't load! :/

No we use exchange at the moment but will at some point move GAFE. We've never had to log in before to see YouTube videos. I don't think it's the same issue Thanks though!

It happens site wide and 'm using a laptop at the moment to test it with and the sound is working fine.

 

Yeah I tried this and it worked fine through another proxy ( we have county's internet proxy) and our own Smoothwall. When going through Smoothwall it won't work but will through county's!!

H8 U!! Tried to get some tickets to his gig yesterday for the Mrs but after waiting for an hour he was sold out at every venue within 5 minutes NUTS!!! Going to see Thomas Rhett instead!

Ok so clever ol' me has found the cure just in case peoples be having a similar issue!!

 

add these to your allow list googlesyndication.com youtube-nocookie.com googlevideo.com and it works now!

I know you already got this fixed, but you may want to block connection the doubleclick domain. I do this. Helps cut down on a lot of the garbage.
