It would be good to know apart from wireshark is there any other good network traffic monitoring tool that you are using in your environment to find out congested area of your network, wifi performace or possible network loop/dodgy switch ports ect.

For traffic monitoring we use cacti and snmp to create a weathermap of the network

^ Similar thing using Observium with optional Smokeping integration.

 

There's also NTopNG (ntop.org) in free and Pro (€149, SNMP integration and better reporting) versions if you want to see what type of traffic is passing through.
