I've a couple (ok, maybe more than a couple) of questions about using the admin.ini file:

1 If wanted to specify the Personal Resources path (number 4 in the admin.ini) and used:

4=\\server\share\%username%\Activ Software\ActivInspire\My Resources

would it resolve that correctly? I'm looking to add some reasonably user-agnostic settings the admin.ini in a bid to speed up load times.

2 If 0 (User's profile path) isn't specified, does it assume C:\users\username...... is the correct path?

3 In terms of time-to-load, which of the settings within admin.ini cause the greatest improvement in startup times. I'm aware this is probably "it depends" - on average, what should have the most impact?

4 We use folder redirection for staff laptops, does ActivInspire handle paths set in admin.ini nicely if the laptop is at home?

cheers

Hi Pete,

1. Yes, adding server information to #4 will add my resources to the server location.

2. If user path isn't specified it will keep the default settings.

3. There is no setting in the Admin.ini that will speed up the loading of ActivInspire.

4. Since you are redirecting the document settings on the laptop, you may want to keep the default settings in ActivInspire so they can have my resources and profiles when they work from home.

I don't know if you have our document that is on our support site, here is the link to the network install and how the Admin.ini works. https://support.prometheanworld.com/files/public/pdfs/ActivInspire+Network+Installation+Guide+v1.pdf

Thanks @peferraro,

Just to confirm after reading through the attached Word doc, which includes variable examples for Linux and OSX - does ActivInspire also understand the Windows variables:

%username%

%homedrive%

%homepath%

%userprofile%

in UNC paths?
