IT curriculum planning/ teaching

Just wondering how much (as a one man NM in a large school) you get involved in planning / teaching IT lessons ?

None, that's what the teachers get paid to do. You don't see any other teachers getting support planning their lessons. I have always had a slight issue as we our IT Support for the whole school, if they want support teaching their lessons then they need a departmental technician then they need to employ one, we are a separate department. Take science for example, they employ their own technicians within their department, not borrow a technician from site team who just happen to deal with chemicals too.

Yes. None. Teachers and teaching assistants teach. IT managers manage the IT network.

Lessons - nothing at all. I'm consulted on what software and material can/will be available to deliver it, but that's the same as with any other subject. I have neither the qualifications nor paycheque to be involved with teaching ICT.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.. I'm currently supporting the teaching - because it's new software... so in lessons every morning - but hoping to fall back over time... falling behind on network stuff...

Make sure you document that is the reason you are falling behind.

 

Make the teacher know that this is only for a short time too.

Maybe not @3s-gtech - but I guarantee that you could offer a unique perspective that no teacher could offer with regards to technologies.

I'm hoping to strike a happy medium - as I do enjoy the sessions - and yes - I can give a different perspective on things. However, I have stated that I'm not trained teacher so planning would be out of my skill range - but happy to provide support.
