Corrupt files / loosing permissions Help !

This is a bit of a long one I am hoping someone can help otherwise I'm calling Apple.

OK so a bit of background, our school has a lot of mac's (MacBook / iMacs ) all were running Mavericks, we have 2 Mac minis running as servers, all client machines are ad and OD joined, everything was running fine, we had started planning upgrades to El Capitan. Some machines have already been done and are working very well. We took the opportunity to update from office 2011 to 2016.

Up until before Xmas everything was fine, the majority of the student devices where still running mavericks and office 2011, until we ran into a strange problem, users where unable to open office files from the server either home drives or network shares, the message stated that the files were corrupt.

We spent quite some time wondering what on earth was going on, as the files would still open on windows machines and any macs which had been upgraded to El Capitan and office 2016. If we re-saved the files the students on the mavericks machines could reopen them but once saved again they would be corrupt.

After drawing a blank with what the issue could be we decided to step up our upgrade plans as El Capitan and office 2016 didn't have the issue, I thought it may be some tactical ploy by Apple or Microsoft to force us onto office 2016.

So with a plan in place we started the lengthy job of upgrading student devices.

All was well until this week, we have a new problem on the devices that have been upgraded to el capital and office 2016.

When saving office files they now no longer get corrupt, they are now dropping the permissions on the windows servers they are saved too, so we are having to take ownership of the files and re-apply the permissions, but after the students update the mended files and re save the same thing occurs.

Originally we thought this was just a Mac office thing but we are experiencing similar issues with other file types.

And there is the problem, thanks to anyone who manages to get to the bottom of the post, I would really appreciate some expert advice, as I'm tearing my hair out it's been a long week.

No after some digging it was actually a bug in office 2016 32 bit version.

I applied a roll up tool to 64bit which seems to have cured it and it's now starting up much faster. Took some digging around though [emoji35]

We had a similar issue, a while ago, with Office files where if a member of staff opened a file within a students drive it would then change ownership to them. This would prevent the student from then opening or working on the file despite it still residing within their drive which they had full ownership over... Seems to have resolved itself as we haven't had any reports about it in a while so it was either a random netfart or another change/update has happened to cure it.
