Jaan Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Hi all, Just wanted to ask if anybody is having issues with videos hosted on the BBC's servers. All of the BBC site videos aren't working for us, Bite size, iplayer, news etc. I'm thinking it's probably something to do with Google stopping the use of Flash player as IE\edge works fine. (I guess this might be in the wrong section then?) Thought it might be a filtering issue, but other admin accounts are also affected. any feedback would be great thanks.
6Foot2 Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 I am on the same version of Chrome as you and I was able to play Taboo on the BBC iPlayer just now. Is it still an issue for you?
DalekSec Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 I'm running that version, just check iPlayer seems to be working fine
Jaan Posted January 11, 2017 Author Posted January 11, 2017 Great, thanks for the speedy reply guys, Down the rabbit hole i go...... yay. I get the following error; An error occurred while handling your request While trying to retrieve the URL:http://emp.bbc.co.uk/emp/SMPj/2.8.18/iframe.html The content could not be delivered due to the following condition: Timeout while reading response from Server Your cache administrator is: [email protected] Powered by UTM Web Protection
Rob_D Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Have you got the latest flash PPAPI plugin (24.0.0.194) installed? Chrome no longer handles its own flash updates for some reason, and seems a lot less tolerant of out of date flash than IE is. 1

Is that a documented issue or "feature"?

Jaan Posted January 11, 2017 Author Posted January 11, 2017 Updated the plugin still no joy. Although i feel better knowing it's a "feature" and not.... i'll keep playing
Arthur Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Working fine here too with the same Chrome version.
Arthur Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 There's a HTML5 version of iPlayer that doesn't require the Flash plugin. Try that and then you can rule out Flash. http://www.bbc.co.uk/html5

6Foot2 Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 For clarification: Is more than one machine affected? Does station shutdown/restart help? Does Chrome uninstall/reinstall help? 1
pacapps Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Recently had similar issue with Chrome and Flash and I have come across the following which may be of help, (I think it was posted elsewhere on this site), the person who originally posted the response says it was a known issue (by RM) Anyway the info i below Symantec can cause an issue with Chrome updating (Flash in my case) the following steps have helped resolve the issue for the admin user in one of my supported schools. On an affected computer, log in with the SystemAdmin or admin privileged user. Click Start, Run and type smc -stop. Go to the Chrome browser and type Chrome://components. Check the Adobe Flash Player version has changed to 23.0.0.205 (or later) or click the 'Check for update' button. You can also check the version by logging in to this site: https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html Click Start, Run and type smc -start. 1
Jaan Posted January 11, 2017 Author Posted January 11, 2017 Yes all all machines are affected. Restarting doesn't fix it, i'll try a reinstall next. Thanks for all the help guys, i'll try the things suggested and report back. cheers
