Administrative Templates - Group Policy not right

Hi there. I seem to have a problem with the Group Policy for our domain controller.

 

I was looking for Computer Configuration>Policies>Administrative Templates>Network but could not find it.

 

I have logged into another 2012 server at a different school and observed that Administrative Templates there does have the correct folders and is called Administrative Templates: Policy Definitions. At the problem school, it is called Administrative Templates: Policy Definitions (ADMX Files).

 

How can I add the default folders back? If I right click on Add/Remove Templates, nothing is listed in the list.

Just pop the admx templates back in your central store - that should do it. the2012r2 ones are here [ https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=43413 ] which should do you. You could stick the 2016/win10 ones in if you'd rather though I seem to remember having to rename and delete one to make them work.

 

I would check that it's not visible on the DC first though. What you can see does depend a bit on the client

Nope. They need to go in C:\Windows\SYSVOL\sysvol\domain.com\Policies\PolicyDefinitions

 

If that doesn't exist, create it first. This assumes that your sysvol folder in C:\Windows is called SYSVOL - it may not be in some cases. Otherwise go to \\domain.com\SYSVOL\domain.com\Policies\PolicyDefinitions

Your central store is in \\domain\sysvol\domain\policies\policydefinitions

 

The msi you get should extract them all into a folder in program files (not sure why they don't just supply a zipped folder) then just copy the files into the policydefinitions folder mentioned.

Thank you both, silly that MS don't just have it auto extract, but maybe it would overwrite things people had already done. Either way, it looks like that has done the job!
