quiet_andy Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 I have an unusual problem with the Autumn SIMS update, I did have a similar one with the Summer update but wanted to fix the problem rather than find a work around. We are using Solus 3 and have not really had any problems with deploying updates int now. Some staff reported "incompatible database" errors, but when I looked their machine had the latest version of SIMS according to SOLUS. On closer inspection SIMS is installed in Program files and Program files x86 but only one of them is the Autumn version, the other is still the summer version. It seems really inconsistent as this is only on a handful of computers. Is there a reason it is installing in different paths? And is there a simple fix? I did find a thread about it from a year or so ago, but cannot find it again. Thanks Andrew
LeMarchand Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 Whenever I get this, a redeploy using Solus seems to cure it. I wouldn't swear to it, but I suspect that the cause is users ignoring the "do not use SIMS applications" pop up, or turning their machines off while the installation is still taking place.
splattthecat Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 The issue is most likely that when SIMS was originally installed it was installed to C:\Program Files\SIMS and by default SOLUS3 installe to C:\Program Files(x86)\SIMS. The latter is the one SOLUS3 is upgrading, while the users shortcuts are probably pointing to the former. We changed the installation directory settings in SOLUS3 to C:\Program Files\SIMS at the point we installed it to make sure this wasn't a problem for our schools. 1
Meldrew Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 Our usual procedure is to delete both versions and then reinstall, just to ensure they only have the most up to date version installed. 1
