MarcLister Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 A colleague has a laptop that she takes home. For this reason I haven't joined it to the domain. I've tried installing SOLUS onto the laptop by way of the SOLUS administration program but I can't see the laptop on the network by its name so I try using its IP address. SOLUS just refuses to see the laptop and I can't install SOLUS which I obviously need to be able to install SIMS. Does anyone have any suggestions to try out, in January 2017, in order to attempt to get SOLUS and SIMS installed for my colleague?
jamesreedersmith Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 Just put it in the domain as normal and make sure its in a group that has cached credentials enabled, then she will log in as normal etc and the same at home and can still be managed and software installed upgraded as normal when she does use it in school - so much simpler...

They don't have SIMS access at home though, as the database is not reachable outside of the domain. (Others have various systems set up to allow this, hough).

I thought I'd have to join the machine to the domain but then install SOLUS/SIMS and remove from the domain. I'll check out the Cached Credentials and sort that out. If I did that with the other staff laptops that would save me a lot of time and would mean I could, as you say, check that software is up-to-date such as the AV. Thanks. I don't think we'd ever bother with that as I can't see many of my colleagues actually wanting to use SIMS whilst at home.

I've never set this, which suggests that cached may be default (of course I could be wrong or maybe your predecessor had things set up differently). You may also need to look at internet connection settings if you use a proxy at the school.
snagrat Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 Install Solus by exporting the manual installing from the admin console. Then add the computer to but browse for Agents not AD and it should work. Ensure firewall is configured on client correctly else it will no appear

I'll give it another check as that would save a bit of time.

Click on Settings, Solus3 and export manual installer in the Solus UI. Run the batch file it expects as the server name etc will be pre populated

Banjo Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 (edited) You could bodge it. On the MIS server right click on the \Program Files (x86)\SIMS\SIMS .net folder and create a hidden$ share. Map a drive from the laptop to the share and then create a shortcut from Pulsar.exe in the folder to the laptops desktop. Edited January 3, 2017 by Banjo
