Backup Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Hi All, We currently use BLOXX web filter and will be keeping this until our contract runs out in 2018. However, our firewall is due for replacement I we are thinking of going with Fortinet, does anyone have any experience of the two solutions working together?
SchoolsBroadband Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Fortinets are great firewalls and very cost effective whether you go cloud based, onsite or VM. I've no experience of using Bloxx with them but we have with other filters (Smoothwall, Lightspeed, Iboss) and they all work well together so I'm sure Bloxx wouldn't be too different. Thanks Dave
Edu-IT Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Given Bloxx is going end of life, might be worth looking at the two side by side.
Wave9_Lee Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 You could consider SOPHOS, I believe it does all Fortigate does and more for less. And yes we are a Sophos partner. You could replace your firewall now and add web filtering module at a later date to line up with your Bloxx contract end date. If you would like a demo or a chat, please let me know. cheers Lee
w00dy01 Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 You should check out Iceni by Opendium. They are very cheap compared to the alternatives out there and their support is fantastic. When you call up with an issue/query you get right through to the people that make the product. I would say that 9/10 we get the issue/query resolved and if not they will tailor make a fix for us to apply to our filter/firewall Definitely worth a look if you are considering switching! 1
twin--turbo Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 We have a present generation Sophos web Filter appliance, it just about does the job of filtering. But Grouping users is clunky, Analytics are abysmal Forensics are Abysmal Many other restrictions and we trust our users!! I have a Sophos UTM9 at home and the performance is staggeringly bad some times. The solutions I read are "Turn off web filtering" Ace! Bloxx I have heard is just a misspelling of the real name. SmoothWall - Various poor reports. Websense I had good times and bad times with. DansGuardian is Free and works OK, although you have to be good with linux. TT
AlanD Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Fwiw... we have just replaced our tmg box with smooth wall. We spent some time looking at what else was out there, bearing in mind the prevent strategy and the need to monitor not just block and filter traffic....and that traffic might not be web traffic...I don't thing smoothwall is completely there, but it seemed to cover most things as well if not better than anything else. Layer 7 is not nearly as good as meraki's wireless apps..but some filters don't even see non web traffic. Not cheap..well quite expensive, especially as most of the software uses guardian squid and other open source components.....and you will need to add manual exceptions to get social networking, and office 365 to work smoothly.
