CAM Posted December 16, 2016 Author Posted December 16, 2016 The RMT now want to cancel tonight's launch of the Night Tube on the Picadilly Line. Their excuse? It isn't safe because a number of trains are in for repairs due to wheel damage. TFL points out that there are enough trains to operate the line in daytime (albeit with disruption) so it makes no difference at night when less trains are required! They really don't help their case do they?
unixman_again Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 London Midland were handing out slices of cake at Stourbridge Junction last night, as a thank you for traveling with them, and as an apology for major disruption a few weeks ago. Nice cake but it doesn't solve their constant late running.

They really don't help their case do they? The RMT have no interest in commuters or their staff really. They simply want to make political points by striking. They always have and always will. This dispute only got serious when ASLEF joined in.
john Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 SouthEastern handed mince pies out at Orpington to apologise for those passengers struggling to get on trains due to the number of Southern passengers Now that is a nice thought, TfL rail handed out bottles of water and ice lollys in summer due to the TfL rotten old rolling-stock they inherited having poor ventilation and no A/C which was also a nice gesture As for RMT on the Night Tube they just never want it full stop they are greedy basics seemed to be staff need to work no more than 4 day weeks (Im sure the rest of the western world is 5 day standard....) and all that extra money. Bankers get paid less than a tube driver if RMT had the way....

On another network, they are complaining about staff being added to trains to improve safety! No wonder they keep getting kicked out of trade union talks with the train operators, I question if their demands or policies make any coherent sense.

It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to deduce what the actual plan is: 1) Bring in cheaper non-union security staff to "address safety concerns" 2) Get rid of more expensive union staff as there is no safety issue 3) Get rid of cheaper non-union staff who were only on short term contracts and haven't got a union fighting their corner 4) Executive bonuses all round!

RMT have always been a political organization who strike at a moments notice. This time is no different to the 100 other times on the London underground or other train franchises. The best thing to do is simply ignore them in any talks. Which is exactly what Southern is doing. I believe they are now having far more constructive talks with ASLEF.

I believe they are now having far more constructive talks with ASLEF. Southern is ignoring them because the tax payers pay them for any money lost - it doesn't affect their bottom line.
