I signed up and then got an email asking me to complete a form with further details and send my users a survey to complete. Once that was done I received an email about a week later saying we had been accepted for early access and Team Drives would be enabled shortly. We have had the Team Drives since Tuesday.

Fiza, may be better to discuss over the phone but I am really keen to hear your thoughts around team drive as you have access to it before we do! sometimes the big boys (Google) provide the tools to the end users and forget about those who actually support the end users. Any feedback you can give me around Team Drive and any other early releases you have access too would be incredibly useful.

Awesome, its a fantastic addition to what is an already fantastic application. Its going to make our lives easier over here as the sharing issue mentioned in the thread before is a real pain when adding new users.

We decided not to go for early access on Team Drive as the agreement said that documents held in team drive may not be protected by the data protection laws.

A questions I've just thought of...

 

Is it possible to enable a feature to edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint files through G Suite, without having them automatically converted to Docs, Sheets and Slides and creating a duplicate file. I know there is an extension that does exactly this, but is there any chance of integrating it directly in to G Suite.

Yes its being recorded although you obviously wont be able to ask questions. Youtube live also supports DVR mode which allows you to rewind the live stream while its on air.

It was the one about the Google Drive app on PC's. Students have a drive mapped to them on the file server and it would be nice to see the app work for all users (I believe currently the drive app doesn't work on domains?) on a PC, so instead of H: mapped to a windows server, it's mapped to Google Drive instead (e.g. H: points to their Google Drive) So when files are saved they go straight onto their Google Drive.

At the moment students have a h: drive on the server and a google drive, they still need their H: drive as to allow local applications to save to, as other drives are restricted so we can't just exclusively use Google drive only. It's a bit of a mess having both!

It is planned that there will be more webinars (from various sources) on a more frequent basis from next year.

We will announce these once we have confirmations.

One thing that had previously held us back with these is that the technology for doing ad-hoc webinars wasn't quite there in the the past, but now we (and others who want to become involved with EduGeek) can organise these easily with little set-up time.

It sounded like there was an app that sites on the file server that syncs and reads permissions, so users would still get their local mapped drive, but that would be synced from the server... so the same thing, but reducing the traffic on workstations syncing individual user drives...
