what kind of upload speeds did you have? How long does it take to upload that much data?

We were not uploading TB's per night. The incremental would run for an hour or so and the snapshot would run during the night and finish around 5am.

I think it was around 10mbs upload last year when we had the software.

Our LA use Redstor to do the SIMS backups. We'll be buying into full server backups offsite soon.

Does your LA provide any such service?

@TIOAOA - Any update?

Worked pretty well however there were limitations on the trial of 200GB upload, still suitably impressed that I'm going to pay for the full fat version

Does Crashplan support server backups i.e. for full recovery? Or do they just do file backup? Because that sounds very interesting!

They certainly didn't used to, not sure about now.

I'm debating whether to try weekly or fortnightly archive jobs with Veeam to a spare NAS, then use CrashPlan at appropriate intervals to back that up. It's a question of how long it will take to back up 4-5 TB.

we use crashplan and pay i think its around £300 for the year and it is theoretically unlimited, started with 3tb and just asked them to double it to 6 and they had no problems :)

Which version of Crashplan are you using, Premium or Enterprise?

We're only a small school, we have about 2TB that will be backed up initially but that will increase over time.

I'm considering looking at a cloud-based backup store, though not entirely sure where to start. Here's some key details:

We use VEEAM to backup (which is encrypted) to a SAN. This is a backup of all of our servers, including all the data/home folders/shares/etc.

We also use VEEAM to perform Backup Copy Jobs of the above jobs to two other NAS devices located in separate buildings.

The Backup Copy Jobs are currently storing at around the 3TB mark.

Ideally I'd like to backup this 3TB of Backup Copy Jobs to an online repository that I can link into VEEAM using WAN acceleration, and to make management easier.

Also ideally I'd like to ensure that this would protect us against Ranson-ware attacks, specifically ensuring that the online backups are not also targeted and encrypted, so that I can restore the data if necessary.

Do any suppliers match these requirements?

I'm using LiveDrive. It's file level, but that's what we want. Client sits on the backup server and does its thing, throttled so that it doesn't stuff the bandwidth. Has a nice app for the phone allowing me to recover any document - great for demonstrations. Encrypts everything between client and their cloud. £100 a month for 10TB.

I'm also looking for similar - wondered what the rough going rate is for cloud storage for something like this - I've been quoted 25p / Gb / month by one firm which seems very high....

Redstor have the ability to provide a secure offsite repository for Veeam images. I would be happy to discuss this further detail and provide some indicative pricing.

Please do get in touch via PM if of interest.

Hi Kenny,

I'm sure I can be more competitive than this. Please feel free to get in touch for a quotation.

Kind regards,

Michael
