Just nipped into school to do a few things in the peace and quiet, redid a default profile and cannot get rid of;

 

take a tour of windows - went into registry to change applet setting to 0 was already 0, used script from internet to turn it off - still pops up with every new login.

 

Also remote assistance keeps reappearing in the start menu - it's not in all users start menu and reappears after deleting it from individual start menus.

 

As you can tell from this I don't use redirected start menus.

When you created your new profile, when it pops up 'Take a tour of Windows' clicking on it and then selecting Cancel should make it disappear for good. When you logoff, this information is then stored in the profile.

Thanks I think I'll redo the default profile on Monday. I did what it said in the link but no difference.

 

Any thoughts on the remote assistance program shutcut?

A redirected Start Menu in a domain would hide the icon, however to be honest I wouldn't let it concern you too much.

 

If you're going to eventually create an image (and by the sounds of things you might), make sure you uninstall Windows Messenger from Add/Remove Programs and also enable Group Policies to disable Windows Messenger completely. Windows Messenger is the most common method used for Remote Assistance.

 

Remote Assistance has never properly worked for me, due to firewalls and various other configurations users have. It's good in principle, but rubbish in practice. End users also can't do any damage if they did click on the icon.
