Using music on a website

Morning all!

 

We have several videos that have been made by staff and students that the Head would like on the school website. Things like students receiving their exam results, a tour of the sixth form etc.

 

The problem is that most of these videos have some sort of music as a backing track and so we can't currently use them for copyright reasons. My question is, what do we need in order to be able to play copyright protected material on a website? Is it likely to be far too expensive, or are there concessions available for educational establishments?

can't you resample them and(movie maker or something similar) mute the sound?

Licensing for music is a complex and annoying issue - the best people to speak to would be whoever deals with licensing at your LA. There are a number of licenses around, as well as the fair dealing aspect of law over here in that things are ok to be used for educational purposes.

 

But this is definitely an issue to get someone who knows what they're talking about to tell you about.

I think you could get a licence, but it wouldn't cover you for all things and would be a PITA do look after.

 

I'd recommend re-encoding them with some creative commons music as the easiest solution
