We are independent and use Sage Payroll in conjunction with Sage Line50 accounts.

We then use our bank's software to do the online banking part - i.e. actually make the payments.

I don't know what size it covers, but HMRC do a Employers CD Rom each year and that does all the tax, NI, P forms etc for you so you then just need to print them, and do the payment by cheque, AllBACS, Online Banking etc however you feel the need. May be some use to you.

FMS does payroll doesnt it? You might want to contract it out too to one of the many accounting firms.

Not forgetting you'll have teacher's pensions and LGPS to deal with too. However, Sage and MyOB make some good products if you definatley want it in-house.

We also handle our own finances and use Sage Payroll and Sage Instants, plus dial-up secure banking. FMS is used for orders / bill-paying.

Finance Dept is happy with Sage, support is very good.

We are a foundation school and use a products called OPERA and Pegasus which are (luckily for us) supported locally. If you PM me with your contact details I will give you are burser's name and contact details plus the contact details of the company which supplies and supports the software.

It runs quite happily on our admin server and cuurently we have had no problems with it.

Can anyone suggest any payroll software used in schools?

We're moving from an old version of Sage Accounts to FMS. We're a private school, so be have fees billing and suchlike to do as well, so it looks like our finance department decided that FMS did everything they needed it to. If I understand correctly the software itself was quite reasonably priced, although the training costs seemed a bit over-the-top.

Another vote for Sage Payroll here. Like Pete, Sage for paying staff via BACSIP; FMS for paying suppliers via the oldest and most tortuous route possible: dot-matrix-printed, tractor-feed cheques signed individually, twice.

Has anyone set up BACS for paying suppliers in FMS? Any idea what it costs extra and what the process is? This aging OKI needs to be given the heave-ho and BACS in FMS is step 1!

Cheers guys - we use FMS for all the finance stuff but I wasn't aware you could use this to pay staff as well?

As a side I'm not sure how suppliers are paid here and never really thought of it? Will have to check that one out :)

We use Payroll Plus here which is part of PASS by WCBS.

Cannot fault it. Help desk is second to none too. Use it for accounts as well as our admin side also, and are implementing the academic element in the next month.

Thumbs up for West Country Business Systems

Can anyone suggest any payroll software used in schools? We are going foundation from April and we are considering moving from the LEA payroll service and doing it in-house.

I know I'm late in this topic, only just joining the online world ...

I would give a strong recopmmendation to the Pegasus Payroll (I am in the trade but don't supply payroll), my recommendation is based on the support services available. There is a broad network of local support centres throught the UK and Ireland supporting payroll - you get person to person help.
