Looking at replacing our little PA system (PE blown the amp...)

But looking at other ideas as we have a pair of big Mackie active speakers which we only use a few times a year for open/awards evenings.

Must be loud enough for a sports hall. Speakers stands are must i feel. Long cables and if possible to be passive speakers. (mixer with built in amp would be a huge benefit) and idealy light weight,

Too much to ask? What would you recommand?

Have a look how much it is for a new woofer,

Ours blew over the summer (Damn summer school *shakes fist*)

A new PA system was £300+, new woofer was £30.

Easy choice, and easy to replace the speaker! Only the two solder points.

I also had a thread for it so i'll see if i can find it and link it!

How big is the hall? How many people will be in it?

What wattage (wot?) will depend upon the size of the space you've got, how many people are in it and whether you want to use it just for speech or music as well.

Speakers are fine. Just the amp is blown....

If you're after something fairly portable then I'd go for something like this: Behringer Europort PPA2000BT 8 Channel Portable PA System at Gear4music.com

I'd say 600w is the minimum you'd want for a hall that sort of size and this should have plenty of headroom, although Behringer stuff never seems as loud as it should be for the wattage rating they give their kit.

We have one of these - its a great bit of kit.

Make sure the Ohm (usually 4 or 8) on whatever amp you choose match the existing speakers or the 1000watts you think your buying might not actually turn out to be that.

What is the make and model of the speakers your looking to power ?
