Papercut... Is this possible ?

Hi all,

 

Is there a way to do this ?

 

Our Papercut user groups are synced with our AD.

 

Some users within those groups require a higher weekly credit than others.

 

Is there a way to auto apply more credit per user even though the top up balance is set on the Groups page.

As far as I can see scheduled credit top ups can only be applied at group level.

If I give those individuals an overdraft they still run out after a period if time when it max's out.

 

I don't want to have to create a new AD group with just those users.

 

 

Is there another way ?

 

 

I'm thinking add a new user group in AD and adding them to it... but can users be in 2 groups in Papercut and if so which group membership would take precedence ??

You can schedule it via scheduled task/BAT using server-command.exe adjust-user-account-balance etc, but not sure you could within papercut itself.

Not sure why you don't want to use an AD group - that's what they're for.

Because it will make my AD a bit messy and I also want to apply different amounts to each user on a schedule.

 

Why have an OU just for people who need an extra fiver print credit ?

Just put a BAT file scheduled task on the server that does:

 

server-command adjust-user-account-balance "10JimJim" 10.00 "£10.00 Automated Increase"

 

For each user etc If you want cheap/cheerful way. Think that's the right layout but been a while since I did the server commands

You don't need an OU, just a Security Group. We have them for all sorts of things here. We have them for different print groups in PaperCut, for different drive permissions (eg. pupils have write access to X drive, normal staff have write etc...).

Under Groups - Add/Remove Groups. You can then select groups for Papercut to pay attention too. Then when the next sync is run, it'll make sure those people are in that group in Papercut too. You can then edit the group to set a schedule.

Quick one though.. ATM I'm setting all my users credit by membership of their OU.

 

If a user is a member of an OU and a security group will it apply both amounts of credit?

It depends how you set it - as far as I know, you can have it "add" credit, rather than replace credit. So, the balance is increased by the amount instead of set to that amount.
