Folders not being accessible on server

Ok, weird one.

iMac on El Capitan (upgraded from ML) is able to see the folders on the server share, can open any document within the root (ie first view) but unable to open any folder showing (so cant browse the server folders/files. It is restricted.

iMac on Mountain Lion can open the share and any folder on the server.

I have a support call open, however this is a bazarre thing if it was Windows let alone a mac. Any ideas?

Do you connect to your folder using the SMB option?

@ITJS2015 yes, if I log on as a teacher, all is fine. As a student it doesn't allow me to click in a folder, yet I can copy the entire contents to the computer and it works. Checked the setup difference between students and staff, changed it but the change doesn't come across despite rebooting to pick up changes.

Had to leave so will try again tomorrow.

For testing i would create a blank folder on the network and what ever permissions you have set for staff on this drive set the permissions just on one folder with something in like a text doc or a few jpg files.

Its seems to be permissions but I wouldn't be sure what you have set, so I would just do it on a location where staff and students have got the same mapped drive but within that a folder with special permissions where children can copy or delete stuff from it.
