sydborn Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 Hi All, I have an issue with office 365 email account. The head teacher left and I was told to make her email as an alias to the deputy head. I was able to do it for all the alias under the head teacher email but when i added her email to the deputy head emails and save, it comes up with an error not allowing me to save. Please what should i do??
rich_tech Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 Ideally I think it would be easier to allow them access to the mailbox and share that properly with the user rather than adding them as an Alias, seeing as the old head is no longer on the scene ? I would imagine it will kick off because the user is already on the system if your trying to reallocate their address and their active as well.
PeterW Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 I may have wrong that read but it sounds like you have added the old head's email address as an alias to the new head's mailbox and it is failing when you try and add the old head's address as an alias to the deputy head's mailbox, is this correct? If so the reason it does not work is because you cannot add the same email address as an alias to two different mailboxes, you could either create a distribution group with the old head's email address with the new head and deputy head as members or convert the old head's mailbox to a shared mailbox and give the new head and deputy head permissions to it.
McChikenhanger Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 Give the new head access rights to the old head's email address. Then the new head can open it as another shared mailbox. Also you can set a forwarding rule so that all emails received by the old heads account are forwarded to the new head teacher's account.
ozydave Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 If you use dirsync you need to set it the new heads AD attributes. Proxy address if I remember
sparkeh Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Probably easiest just to turn the old head's mailbox into a shared mailbox and allow the deputy access.
sydborn Posted September 11, 2016 Author Posted September 11, 2016 Thanks @sparkeh . How do you go about doing that? Probably easiest just to turn the old head's mailbox into a shared mailbox and allow the deputy access.
Edu-IT Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Thanks @sparkeh . How do you go about doing that? Within the account properties you can grant full access to other users.
sparkeh Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Thanks @sparkeh . How do you go about doing that? Login into 365 and go to the 'Admin' bit Go to the Exchange Admin bit Under recipients click the 'mailboxes' link Search and find the right mailbox On the right hand side of the screen, under 'Convert to Shared Mailbox' click 'convert' Click 'yes' to the warning Close the Exchange Admin and go back to the normal 365 Admin console Under 'Groups' click 'Shared Mailboxes' Select the shared mailbox you want to edit and click 'Members' Add the members who you want to be able to access the mailbox Save Here's a link about accessing the shared mailbox: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Open-and-use-a-shared-mailbox-in-Outlook-on-the-web-for-business-bc127866-42be-4de7-92ae-1ef2f787fd5c?ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US#__toc374009396
