We currently have the display name set as the username and has been like that since my arrival so I carried this on (made sense at the time)

Staff are now starting to mention how they are finding hard to find students within exchange.

I'm thinking of changing the Student display name to show (Student) "Full Name"

How have other people got Display Names?

Cheers

It depends on how you want them ordered in the GAL, we use display names for people that have more publicly facing address like our school office, so we'd have something like "Jane Doe (Schoolname Office)" but then for the pupils we use something like "z(s) John Doe" to push them to the bottom.

In our address book we set the display names like this:

Students are surname, firstname (middle initial if more than one or class/form name if no middle initials) eg Smith, Ellen / Smith, Ellen T / Smith, Ellen 9D

Staff are Surname, Title First Initial and where there's a double we whack in their department eg Rodgers, Mr T / Rodgers, Mr T (History)

Isn't this a safeguarding issue as the display name is what gets used as a friendly from address when a student sends an email, therefore identifying the students full name to external people? Certainly we were asked to ensure that the email address and friendly name never reveals the identity of a student.

Our students are hidden in the GAL and cannot send external email, I can't see why you'd want everyone to have that much access!

This. We never considered it a safeguarding issue since our kids can only send e-mail internally.
