I had to give up after 10 donations due to medication. Now they won't take it due to me being anaemic.

AB+ here - I was always awkward

That's the absolute best blood group to have if you're in a pickle. You can receive from anyone. Poor O-. Very choosy.

O-: Universal donor: Can donate to (almost) anyone

AB+: Universal recipient: Can receive donations from (almost) anyone.

Donated blood is always of use, no matter which group. NHSBT will not refuse a donation for a trivial reason: eg: "We have a lot of that group already" (which they do not in any case: New donors are always welcome)

Random bit of data. In the TV series House. Dr James Wilson is O- and Dr Gregory House is also AB+. The two comment how this typically matches their personalities. XD

It's amazing what they can do with our blood, even if it's just to give someone a better quality of life. :)

I suppose I'm just a bit weird - no great surprise!

Please donate. As a recipient of a transfusion when my Crohn's made me severely anaemic, I really appreciate just what a gesture blood donation is.

Sadly I can never donate it now due to persistent anaemia and being on immunosuppressents. I do feel quite guilty that I can't!

I'm sorry you can't donate, but you shouldn't feel guilty, that is what the blood drive is there for. :) The fact that you work providing IT Support shows that you care and help others, and I am sure there are other things you do which help people out. It's all swings and roundabouts. :)
