Windows 10 Anniversary Update (1602) - What Are Your Favourite New Features?

Now that the Windows 10 Anniversary Update (1602) has been released we can get to grips with its new features.

 

• 
  
• Active Hours (assuming we can configure it with a Group Policy) makes sense so that PCs arent rebooting during the day when Teachers are using them.
  
• Project to PC sound interesting - when I get a chance I definitely want to look at that and give it a go.
  

 

What new features do you like or are looking forward to trying?

More connected with my andriod phone, can now reply to texts via Cortana on PC! (haven't done it yet but have had my texts pop up in my notifcations!)

 

Also now that the notifcations show the time and where it came from is a plus!

I can't really find anything that I am excited about to be honest in 1607. If anything, just a little annoyed with the start menu changes and can't find anything of real benefit that has been added... yet.

You need to have a Miracast wifi adaptor in your pc just as a fyi.

Glad you told me that else I might have ended up banging my head against the wall trying to get it to work when we probably dont have that piece of hardware on any of our laptops!

Modernish laptops should have support for it. I think my desktop wifi does support it as well but its disabled right now in the bios.

My laptop seems slower to start (cold boot) since the update.

I'm not a fan of the new Start Menu at all, why have they suddenly decided I need to see all my apps on the main screen? If I want to see if I have an app I'll just search for it, anything I use frequently would be under 'Most used' anyway previously

 

As for Edge, Cortana and the Windows Store / 'Live' tiles I don't use any of those anyway so not really noticed anything else major so far!

There is a GPO to set Active Hours in the new templates.

 

Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > [b]Turn off auto-restart for updates during active hours[/b]

 

If you enable this policy, the PC will not automatically restart after updates during active hours. The PC will attempt to restart outside of active hours. Note that the PC must restart for certain updates to take effect. If you disable or do not configure this policy and have no other reboot group policies, the user selected active hours will be in effect.

 

If any of the following two policies are enabled, this policy has no effect: 1. No auto-restart with logged on users for scheduled automatic updates installations. 2. Always automatically restart at scheduled time. Note that the max active hours length is 12 hours from the Active Hours Start Time.

I noticed "cast to" is working better for me. Steaming a movie to the tv is working a lot better.

Will the aniversary update but forced upon home users? That's a feature that I'd like to see removed
