penfold Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 I've got my phone contract coming up in the next couple of months and am looking to replace my phone with and go onto a PAYG rather than contract. I've currently got a contract with me and my wife and with the state of both our phones I'll be looking to replace the both of them meaning I'm looking at around £100 mark. Has anyone got any good suggestions? I used to know what the standard decent budget was but I'm a little out of touch. Also have an old Nexus 7 which is really showing it's age. I've been looking at replacing it if I can find anything decent for not too much but it looks like the budget tablets are not much better than my Nexus 7 and would not be worth the money. Anyone got any suggestions? When I do a quick search budget seems to be anything under £200 which is a bit above budget to me:(
LeightonJames Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 I have just bought the missus and my daughter the Amazon Fire Tablet. I got my daughter the 16GB model. The Tablet seems very responsive. I have rooted both of them and replaced the OS with SlimKat as it removes all of Amazon's advertising and the horrible OS. You can then install your nexus 7 in your car like I did with mine With regards to the phone, £100 might be tight to get a decent one to be honest. I got my LG G3 second hand last year for £140. Whichever phone you get, get yourself a GiffGaff sim. Great service and reception. Been with them for a few years now. 1
protocol Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 Vodafone Smart Ultra 6? I might be wrong but you could probably get it unlocked so you can use any sim card with it. 1
SpuffMonkey Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 Try and push your budget a bit and get a Moto G4 with a giffgaff sim - its a great phone for the price 1
techy32 Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 Do a little research on Chinese market here http://www.aliexpress.com I bought UMI Super for £125.00 and very happy with the phone. After Brexit the prices has gone up. Only one complain, the camera is not great.... 1

I was tempted with one when they were on offer but it seemed to me that spec wise they didn't look that much better? I don't want to pay to get something unless it is a big jump.
gtg93 Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 (edited) In regards to a phone, I've had the Honor 7 for a few months now with 3(Huawei's latest spin off) and I must say, it's really good... Running Android Marshmallow - Oct core CPU, 3GB RAM, 16GB with expandable storage, fingerprint scanner, HD camera - Runs everything I've thrown at it so far.Honor 7 Dual SIM Contract & Pay as you go | Three - I believe they have a new one out too now. They do a SMART watch so I'd imagine a tablet would be due at some point - if the phones anything to go by I'll probably be investing in a tablet when I'm ready for a new one. jinnantonnixx Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 I bought a Doogee X5 to replaced my smashed phone. Apart from the just-OK-not-great camera, it's a bargain at £43 delivered. 1
mats Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 get yourself a GiffGaff sim. Great service and reception. Been with them for a few years now. Just be aware that Giffgaff like to have an annual no-service day. The causes vary (flooding, failed updates iirc) but you just have to sit tight until their engineers finish sweating.
Danp Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 I bought my daughter a Asus Zenfone 2 in April. I did have an issue with the battery on the first one, but this was changed within 24 hours and the replacement phone has been spot on.
