Right. I have downloaded and need to go for a hunt soon me feels!

When you get to choose your starter, you can ignore it (i.e don't pick one) and wander a bit for a Pikachu instead.

Noooooooo!!!!! I didn't know that

Aw what? Really? :(

Yup. And that was literally my reaction when I found out.

Oh well, Charmind'r is still best starter.

Coming from the proper Pokemon games... Raichu is only good when male and they have that sharp pointed tail.

Females stay as Pikachu for that swag heart-shaped notch.

I don't know what you're talking about. :p

Though, providing it continues to be a thing, having a place to give everyone a heads-up on rare pokemon and organise gym raids would be cool.

That's why I don't catch female Pikachu's, because I want to evolve it :p

Link: Pokemon Go is a huge security risk - adam reeve

...To play the game you need an account. Weirdly, Niantic won’t let you just create one - you need to sign in with an existing account from one of two services - the pokemon.com website or Google. Now the Pokemon site is for some reason not accepting new signups right now so if you’re not already registered there you’ll need to use a Google account - and that’s where the fun begins.

I started the game, hit the Google button, and was redirected to log in. Normally you’d see a little message saying what data the app is going to be able to access - something like “This app will be able to view your email address and name”. For some reason that’s not shown in this case, but I went ahead and logged in anyway. Then on a whim I went to see which permissions it was granted (you can see for your own account right here). To say I was a little stunned is putting it lightly - it said:

Pokemon Go has full access to your Google account...

Pokemon Go isn't on my list of apps with permissions.

It's iOS only and, due to it not being a thing on Android, it's probably Apple/Niantic being lazy setting permissions.

That is what it says further down the article, pretty much:

...Now, I obviously don’t think Niantic are planning some global personal information heist. This is probably just the result of epic carelessness. But I don’t know anything about Niantic’s security policies...

Doesn't even show up, for me..

Maybe they got the dodgy trojan version?

iOS only. So no dodgy version (IIRC)

The Android version uses the OS's access, iOS has to request it.

Either Niantic said they need full access, or Apple just request full access for apps. Either way, someone has messed up.

I'm already seeing fear mongering articles...

Woohoo, took my youngest out on a 6k walk and we got a bunch of pokemon and hit a bunch of stops. Both level 5 now and if the batteries on both our phones hadn't died we would have stayed out longer. Normally have to bribe or threaten him to come walking with me but now he can't wait till tomorrow to go do it again. Great app for people with lazy kids :)

We did notice that some areas had no pokemon at all and others there were 3 or 4 within a few hundred meters of each other. Anyone cracked how/where they spawn yet?

Opening app used like 40% of battery, managed to catch 2 before my phone died lol

I've done a couple of multiple hour runs and have yet to drain my battery...

I'm not even doing them from 100%.

@X-13 you big show off x

Double powersave mode. ;)

Phone on powersave, app on powersave.

Most of the time my phone is in my pocket. I only take it out to catch stuff, grab items or work out where I need to wander next. :p

Yes the battery saver mode is good. At first I though it wasn't working as I thought it meant face down and not literally upside down.

It's a shame that the app freezes if your phone locks sometimes... and that you can still press buttons.

So many times I've got my phone out and seen that EduGeek or Twitter is open.

I have had a few times tonight where i caught a Pokemon and the servers blipped, game freezes and I loose it. :'-(

I got lucky with that.

Just as an incense ran out, a Ghastly rolled up. App froze when I threw the ball (servers down, again) but when they came back, I had it in my squad.
